1958 Austin-Healey 100/6, BN6,

Considering the low production numbers and the fact that this is one of the few models that sport only two seats, this makes the 58’ BN6 one of the most desirable Models, and Years, for Investment/Collecting.

The BN6 is considered by most to be a True Sports Car; something that can easily be prepped for racing or just driven as a beautiful classic on sunny Sunday afternoons.

Listed on a recent Sports Car Market “BUY” list as a car that is well worth $80K+ today and an excellent investment for tomorrow.  This coincides with a couple articles recently published by the Wall Street Journal on the topic of Investing in Classic Cars. The Oct 19th article specifically mentioned that it’s the Open Cars/Roadsters that are performing the best in the Classic Car Market Place.

Hagerty Collector Car Price Guide Values the BN6 at $97,600 USD for a # 1 car.    The RESERVE for this car is set WELL BELOW this Value.

Throughout the years the Austin-Healey has retained its original Classic Sporty styling that includes soft rounded lines, an oval grille, a long front bonnet and a shortened rear deck lid. With these features the Healeys are considered one of the most attractive of production sports cars, with a style and appearance still pleasing to the eye today.

Starting with a four-cylinder 100/4 in 1953, the Austin-Healey was upgraded to six-cylinders in late 1956 with the introduction of the 100/6.   This model was very similar in appearance to the 100/4, but was outfitted with a tuned version of the six-cylinder BMC ‘C’ series engine giving an impressive 117 HP @ 4750 rpm.  To complement this, Healey employed a 4-speed manual transmission, coupled with two additional gears offered as an overdrive.

In April 1958 the BN6 model was introduced, this time featuring the Very Rare 2-seat version with a longer wheelbase.   Production figures were 10268 for the 2+2 100/6 (BN4) and only 4,150 for the 2-seater 100/6 (BN6) making the 2-seater 100/6 extremely rare and highly collectable. The vast majority of Austin Healey's were sold in the United States until the 100-6 was discontinued in 1959.

Prices for Healey’s have been heading upwards for the past several years.  Some of them bringing 6 figures over the past few years.

THE HEALEY BEING OFFERED here is a strikingly beautiful example of one of the most sought after Healey’s; the Austin Healey 100/6, BN6, Two Seat Roadster.   This fine example is finished in the classic two tone Healey Blue and White Cove color combination.

Unlike the Healey’s that you will find at big name auctions, this car is priced for real people with real wallets; WELL BELOW THE Hagerty VALUE GUIDE.

The car underwent a substantial restoration during the past few years and looks fantastic as seen in the enclosed photographs.  The car has been VERY WELL cared for, and enjoyed only on beautiful sunny days.   One of the main reasons this car is being sold, is to find a new home where the car can be driven and appreciated as these cars were intended.

The restoration included many upgrades that enhance both the Reliability, Performance, and Aesthetics of this car.   Outlined below are some, but not all, of the key things that were done during the restoration.

  1. Upgraded Power-plant- One of the only downfalls with the 100/6 was the underpowered engine.   Though the 2.6 liter engine delivered exceptional power, in 1959 Healey replaced the 2.6 liter engine with the 3.0 liter 150 HP engine to give this car the performance it deserved to be competitive on the race circuits.   Many of these cars have been upgraded with this engine, giving the car a superb power to weight performance ratio and this car is no exception.  This car has been upgraded with the 3.0 liter BJ8 Healey engine which delivers 150 HP giving it the attitude to match its race bred heritage.   The engine runs strong and fires right up with a simple push of the button.
  2. Audio Ready - The car has been outfitted with an antenna giving you the option to listen to a radio if you chose to install one.
  3. Thermal Acoustic Insulation - Due to the high amount of heat Healey’s are known to generate through the floor / transmission tunnel, this Healey has been upgraded with the Dynamat Dynaliner heat and sound deadener.   This material offers exceptional thermal and acoustic insulation for your driving comfort.
  4. Stainless Steel Exhaust – the car has been upgraded with SS exhaust pipes for proven reliability.
  5. New Chrome Wire Wheels - As seen in the photos, they not only look great but offer better reliability than the factory 48 spoke wheels.
  6. New Tonneau Cover
  7. New Interior including Door Panels, Seats, and Carpeting
  8. New Trunk Kit
  9. New Convertible Top. The top has never been installed as the car was never driven in the rain, thus the top is still in the box.
  10. New Paint - Show quality – as seen in the photos.  This color combination is perhaps the most sought after combination with the BN6 models.
  11. New Tires
  12. Detailed Engine Compartment / Components
  13. General Electronics and Mechanicals have been restored throughout the car.

The Healey Blue/White coves paint scheme is the most desired classic BN6 color combination. Most often when you see posters/paintings/models of this car, this is the color scheme you’ll see.

The Interior is Stunning including New Seat Covers, Floor Mats, Carpeting, etc.  The car sports the original classic black "Banjo" Style Steering Wheel.  The beautiful white pin striping lining the interior accents the black leather perfectly. This interior is a classic design.

The Convertible Top is BRAND NEW and the correct vinyl top that was shipped with the BN6's out of the factory, and will look very classy when in use.

The Tonneau Cover, which covers the entire cockpit area, is Brand New.  Tonneau covers are very useful for those times you want to protect the interior of your car from dirt, dust and the outdoor elements; yet don’t want to put the top up.   A must for every roadster.

The New Chrome Wire Wheels set off against the beautiful blue and white paint scheme enhance the overall appearance of the cars luster and beauty.

As seen by the photos, the Engine Compartment and related components have all been detailed and are READY FOR SHOW at your local car shows.

As mentioned above the Stainless Steel Exhaust System, another upgrade, was also replaced and is in excellent / like-new condition.  The sound coming out of the exhaust is like music to ones ears; especially as you drive down the road shifting through the gears.

The car starts right up every time with a simple push of the button.

The mileage on the car reads approx. 59,122 miles.  Most likely this is not correct, on the other hand  it appears from the solid condition of the car it may not be too far off.

As noted above this car has the rare and desired Overdrive feature which basically gives you two additional gears, one in 3rd and one in 4th.  In essence, the car has a total of 6 gears allowing you to drive at higher speeds at lower RPM’s.  This provides enhanced reliability by allowing you to run the engine cooler and more economically. .

A classic British sports car, the culmination of the marquee, brought up to contemporary drivability standards with elegance and precision—this Healey is definitely one to own. This is THE car to take to your regional car show and take home a trophy.

As seen by the photos, the condition of this car is well above average.   The RESERVE PRICE is set to allow someone to get a great deal (WELL BELOW BOOK VALUE) and affordably purchase a highly desirable Austin Healey 100-6, BN6 Two Seater Roadster that is continually increasing in value.
