SURVIVOR – owned (and for sale) by one mature owner since spring of 1972!  If you are looking for an original car to enjoy and show this is a fantastic car.  Bought by my close friend Bob in the spring of 1972 in Cedar Rapids, IA.  This car was lightly used and traded even up for a boat one spring morning.   The car was sitting outside and as the previous owner was leaving Bob pulled in.  He bought the car on the spot and has owned it for 42 years.

Bob is now a retired business owner.  The car has always been loved and open checkbook maintained.  It has always been a fair weather car averaging less than 2,000 miles per spring, summer and fall driving season in Iowa.  At 80 years of age Bob and his wife are doing some downsizing.  He also owns a 66 T-Bird convertible that was his mother’s car.  He restored that car years ago and while he cherishes his Corvette he’s not ready to let go of the T-Bird.

Particulars of this car:

#989 War Bonnet Yellow (3,706 were this color in 1971) with #417 Saddle Brown Interior, 350 CI/270 HP, Air Conditioning, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Power Windows, Tilt Wheel, AM/FM Cassette (have original radio), Automatic Transmission, 73,XXX miles ORIGINAL miles.

Exterior Condition:  It has a lovely consistent patina throughout the entire car.  Zero rust, zero fiberglass cracks all original panels.  The car has had one repaint which occurred in 1986/87 and shows well.  Original paint in door jambs as noted in the pictures.  This car has never been hit or damaged and there has never been any rust.  There is a wonderful consistent patina everywhere: trim, brightwork, lenses, glass, everything is original and has aged beautifully.

Interior Condition:  Continuing with the exterior the interior is in wonderful original condition.  Switchgear, trim, gauges, etc. have all aged gracefully together giving that sublime original feel when driving the car.  Door panels, dash top and misc trim pieces are in excellent condition.  There is minor wear to driver’s side seat bolster and original carpets.  Again, totally original interior and they are only original once.

Mechanicals:  Everything works.  Always fair weather driven, open checkbook maintained however Bob hasn’t kept receipts.  I have driven the car a handful of times and the car runs and drives as it should.  Starts immediately when warm or cold, drives straight, brakes are excellent, plenty of power.  Mechanically the car is sound with no known issues.  As you will note in the pictures Bob did have the engine bay freshened and detailed in 2013.

In summary what you have here is a survivor that ought to be purchased by someone that will enjoy this car and continue to maintain it on the merits of originality.  It is not a car to be modified or restored as there are plenty of those cars out there and on the market today.  If you are looking for an “entry level” collector car or a “genuine survivor” to include in your collection this is an excellent consideration.  I guarantee you will turn heads in this car as you cruise and enjoy.  You’ll also garner plenty of attention at shows people see the original beauty and handsome patina throughout this car.

You are welcome to call me at 319-651-9032 to learn more about the car.  Bob is also more than happy to speak to interested parties about his car so I can get you connected to Bob for a chat.

Title is free and clear.   Shipping costs are buyer’s responsibility although I can assist with coordinating shipping if needed.  Thank you for your interest.

Information Specific to 1971 C3 Corvettes:

The 1971 Chevrolet Corvette is one of the least changed from the previous year. This was the aftermath of the labor problems during '69 and '70. The biggest changes are in the motor to reduce the octane requirements from previous years as mandated by GM. This took higher priority than any cosmetic changes. This is also the last year before government emissions began to choke horsepower and create dependability issues.  One minor item that was changed in 1971 was the parking light lenses, most 71's have amber lenses although some early production models have clear. The resin process used to form body parts was also updated to increase quality.
