This listing is for a brand new LOW D (TB012D) Whistle from Tony Dixon Whistles in Devon, UK.
This is a two-piece, fully tuneable, sturdy, warm sounding whistle that has been re-designed. This is the new model with the re-voiced head and tapered bore. The whistle with the straight bore is the DX012.
TB012: Tuneable low D tapered-bore whistle ABS slide
The tapered bore gives these instruments a very responsive and solid tone, very noticeable particularly on the bottom notes.
The re-voiced whistle head and tapered body will also interchange with the existing range and we have the re-voiced heads and tapered bodies available seperately.
Dixon whistles are fun and easy to play, lightweight, and have good volume. They are made of Polymer with an ABS mouthpiece. These instruments are being played by beginners and professionals all over the world.
Players of the Dixon whistles usually describe the tone as pure, mellow, sweet and slightly “chiffy”, their volume is quieter than an aluminum whistle but not too quiet to be used in small group sessions.
Check below to learn about the benefits of Polymer and see more instruments we have available from Tony Dixon music.

After a whole lot of research, Tony Dixon has developed what is believed to be a unique design for his flutes, piccolos and whistles. Looking for a material which would be economical, low-maintenance and suitable for beginners and professionals alike, he has developed the ideal instrument. Polymer resists the effects of moisture, both from the atmosphere and from the breath, and makes these instruments tolerant of temperature changes and knocks in transit. The musical tone is rich and golden - Professionals are using these flutes, piccolos and whistles just for the lovely, warm notes they produce. Dixon instruments are easy to play, practically maintenance free and a pleasure to hold. They make an ideal first instrument for the novice and a perfect complement to the range of instruments for the professional musician.
Polymer, ABS, Aluminium, or Brass?
The different materials used come from a blend of practical reasons and musical tonal reasons. Polymer provides a warm tone, aluminium and brass produce brighter tones. Flute heads are Polymer and the whistle heads are ABS (another type of Polymer). Each material is better suited to the mouth action involved. ABS is harder and more suited to a mouthpiece whereas polymer provides a better shape and feel to accommodate the embouchure (the shape of the lips when blowing across the mouth hole).
