About Emilia Castillo:
Daughter of the famous Mexican silversmith Antonio Castillo, home decor and jewelry designer Emilia Castillo has a following and reputation that spans the globe. As a child growing up in Taxco, Mexico, Emilia was surrounded by master silversmiths in her familyºs legendary workshops. She apprenticed under these craftsmen, mastering their techniques of transforming both silver and mixed metals. She then followed the family tradition of experimentation and innovation, incorporating these techniques into to her own designs. In 1986,Emilia started a business designing jewelry and home décor items including hollowware and decorative pieces. She has since developed a patented technique of fusing pure silver to porcelain, a beautiful and unique result that is a signature of her pieces. Emilia gets her inspiration from the natural surroundings at her ranch in Taxco. Every piece tells a story of her experiences growing up there in that wonderful and beautiful place. Animals-lizards, birds, fish ,frogs ,bugs and flowers-are all stars of her creations.

All of Emilia's pieces are made of natural materials such as lapis lazuli, jasper, turquoise ,malachite, onyx , porcelain and of course Silver. Each is functional art that is meant to be used .All are crafted in the workshop there at the ranch. There are no mechanized processes. All pieces that bear the Ëmilia Castillo signature on the bottom are all hand made. The process to create each piece is extremely time intensive and laborious, taking sometimes up to three weeks to complete. Emilia started supplying Neiman Marcus with her items in 1989 and have continued their relationship to this day. Her designs have garnered numerous national awards and are sought by collectors worldwide. In 1999 she was asked to design and create the Polo Masters Trophy. She is a two time winner of the Galardon Presidential Award, a prestigious prize in Mexico. She has been commissioned by past and present presidents of Mexico to create works for heads of state around the world.
Under Pope John Paul II, Emilia was commissioned by the Catholic church of Mexico to design and create a 6 foot Silver Cross for the Chapel of the Virgin of Guadalupe in the Vatican.
