With this famous classic machine, that is identified and pictured in Olman's Encyclopedia of Golf Collectibles (1985), p. 140 with short description: "The Folda Fairway is a captive ball shot analyzer which was sold in the 1940's. After hitting the ball, the distance is measured and the rope is captured in the comb device.", you can literally hit a ball with your real driver or iron club with all your normal power inside your house or back yard. You can fool around virtualy in a kid's video game or you can swing with your own a clubs. It analyzes your swing and the distance too.

Description: 
Mechanical metal and wood backyard or indoor practice device to help straighten your shot. Golf ball attached to a thick nylon cord (portion of which with plastic coating), held in correct placement by triangle metal rod; once hit ball goes up to a selection of metal grooves with closing metal hinges (i.e. the comb device): middle for Fairway, next Hook and Slice, and outer grooves Out of Bounds. It has a soft rubber resting pad in middle where ball should finish after being hit. One side with metal gauge with turning knob showing yards, 25 to 350. The machine then measures the length of every shot, and indicates whether the shot is in the fairway or [not]...". Also Maker's label on the wooden sides. 
Condition: 
Light wear overall, minor nicks and rubs scratches; still very good or better, clean . Needs a string and ball. Scarce. 
Does include wood base, with original stickers. Measures 35¼" tall. 
It is missing the chord and ball. 

I shouldn't have to tell you that this item is very scarce and a real conversation starter in any vintage golf collection.
