Fits ALL 1994.5 - 2003 7.3L Powerstroke Engines (All 7.3L engines including Old Body Style First Gens as well as Super Duties).

If you've got low fuel pressure, this is the first and cheapest place to start!

The Alloy of this spring is specially formulated to hold up to the extreme temperature swings of the fuel system. This means that it will withstand the 200F plus temps of hot diesel coming out of the fuel rail and be able to handle the shock of that temperature all the way down to sub zero temps and the quick swing shortly after startup for years of service. Where other springs will weaken or even become brittle and shear, these specially designed springs will maintain their integrity. These are not a cheap off the shelf spring. They are high precision polished springs. The reason for a fine finish (polished) on a spring is that any rough casting leads to early spring failure. You will find a rough finish on cheap springs. A rough finish creates the beginnings of cracks almost like perforations. Smooth finish that is found on high precision springs avoids this problem. As the end result to you, investing in quality for your vehicle pays off in reliability for years of trouble free use. 

These springs are self centering (center themselves and actually fix onto the center detent of the pictured brass cap) this means that they will never get kinked in installation and will stay centered through millions of cycles. Even more importantly and by design this spring is a small amount shorter than the stock spring but with more strength. This means that there is not room for the spring to flex side to side (another cause for kinks). This means that the spring is fool proof in installation/removal and will be more resistant to radial (side to side flexing) motion which can cause the plunger to not seal properly leading to low fuel pressure.


If you have low Fuel Pressure or if are not getting sufficient fuel pressure when you're under load, a Fuel Pressure increase will help. If it's much too low (under 10-15psi) the engine will not even idle smoothly much less perform under load.

This spring holds firm fuel pressure at 50 psi.

Many times a suspect bad FPR is simply just the spring. A new regulator could cost over $200 at the dealer and just the spring is over $50 at the parts store (not even available at most stores). These Powerstroke/International Fuel Pressure Regulators (FPR) are a very simple and durable design. This spring resides under the 3/4" Brass cap on the FPR (on the fuel filter bowl housing's side). It's purpose is to hold the return fuel back (by a plunger pushed back with you guessed it... the pressure of the FPR spring). It's a very simple and long lasting design and much better than aftermarket regulators and here's why. The simplicity and metal parts in the stock regulator are much more durable and hold up to the chemical composition of Diesel/Biodiesel fuel better than the nylon and other rubber diaphragms in other regulators which will dry out and even crack over time leading to failure. This regulator has NO diaphragm and no rubber parts!

The stock pressure on these trucks (federal) is approx 35 psi and quickly leaks down after the engine is turned off. This replacement spring supplies approximately 50-55 psi and will hold pressure longer after engine shut down. This means slightly less crank time when restarting. I've carefully chosen the pressure of this spring to hold at approximately 50 PSI. 65 psi and above has actually been shown to slightly decrease performance and in my opinion is un-necessarily harder on the fuel system (return lines to the FPR, o-rings etc.) than it needs to be. 50 psi will give enough pressure that the engine will have what it needs upon demand and under load making it the best overall pressure for your Powerstroke Diesel Truck or Van. And best of all, the spring is uniquely chosen to have just the right specifics to hold fuel pressure longer after shut-down! This is important to feed your injectors with a good supply of lubricating Diesel fuel while cranking. Non-fueled injectors can dry fire which immensely shortens their moving part's life if done on a regular basis. This problem is overcome by a good supply of diesel at all times.

Spring includes detailed instructions with pictures. This is a VERY easy repair! This spring is better than the stock spring because it will hold up to temperatures and cycling for years and best of all it's shorter but stronger and by design. The reason this helps is that it will not kink or bend which is one reason for shortened life in the original spring. It also snaps onto the center point on the FPR's brass cap. This is a self centering feature that ensures that the spring will end up in exactly the right position when installed. Other springs (including the OEM spring) do not have this provision that can help save your FPR and spring not to mention make it even easier to install right the first time.
