MACKENZIE KING presented a rather lacklustre image to the world: a short, pudgy, balding, dull prime minister, an earnest Christian and a master of compromise. His diaries, however, revealed a very different man-one who participated in seances, interpreted his dreams and ardently worshipped his mother. They also recorded the other great passion of King's life-his country estate at Kingsmere, Quebec.

Garden of Dreams chronicles his fifty years at Kingsmere.

It is a lively exploration of a side of his complex personality never given full treatment before. For King, the estate was a refuge and a status symbol, but-above all-it was an enor­mous canvas for him to fill with flowers, trees, roadways and European-inspired ruins on the Canadian Shield.

The King estate is unique in Canadian landscape history both for the historical interest of its surviving landscape records and for the corroborative explanations in King's extensive diaries.

This book is in a very good condition with edge wear to the cover and to the upper and lower edges of the dust jacket, and with no writing or other marks in the book.
