INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH Kenmore Model# 158.17501 Straight Stitch sewing machine (with Reverse Feed and ZigZag), serial number# 0031333 built in the early 60's. Very powerful Kenmore Model 1750 in great shape. Machine shows well with less than average wear and tear for a machine this age (a few normal chips and scratches here and there from use and handling, and I think the bobbin cover plate is from a different Kenmore model, that's it!), and really lives up to Kenmore's legendary sewing reputation. Machine runs smooth, and penetrates dense material with ease. This is a VERY strong machine! Machine has been cleaned and lightly oiled with Authentic Singer Machine Lube and has had the timing and tolerances checked and is perfect. Comes with 5 Kenmore stitch pattern cams including stretch stitch zigzag (ricrac stitch) which is perfect for sewing sails, tarps, or anything where extra strength is needed, and dozens more can be bought off of eBay or from your local sewing dealer. 6-20 Stitches per inch, with Reverse and ZigZag. Heavy duty extra powerful Kenmore 1.2 amp motor. Excellent condition cords and nice condition original variable speed foot controller. Steel Industrial Size Bobbins. Twin thread sewing capable when used with twin tipped needles available anywhere. Feed dogs are lowerable for Darning, Embroidery, and Freehand work. I am including a digital copy of a comparable model Kenmore sewing machine owners manual on CDRom in .pdf format. This will guide you through the process of threading the upper needle thread as well as filling the bobbin and selecting the right needle and tension settings for the job at hand. It really makes sewing like a pro easy. Most importantly, it will show you exactly how to maintain your machine so that it will last another 40+ years. This machine is 100% ready to go, right out of the box. Everything needed to sew, including needle and thread and the samples sewn in these pictures, will be included in the package. Here is a sample of some Upholstery Cording I did on this machine. One hour on this machine and you will be doing these like a Pro too. It's fairly easy. First, you take a small strip of your Material and wrap it around a stretch of cording rope, and sew it tight with the included Special Zipper/Cording foot. Then, blanket that in two more layers of your Material and sew it tight against the Cord once more. Then trim your excess, and you should have a nicely corded piece. With this machine and the included attachments, you will be able to do your own Upholstery work like a Pro with just a few hours of practice.

We used Coats and Clark T26 (Size 69 equivalent) Nylon Upholstery thread for sewing our samples in this auction. It is water resistant and incredibly strong and made for indoor and outdoor use, such as but not limited to, car seats, furniture upholstery, boat covers, horse and pig blankets, car covers, motorcycle seats, repairing sails and tarps, etc. If you are planning on sewing heavy materials, I would suggest you purchase some of this or similar Heavy Duty thread. This type of thread is available at Walmarts, JoAnns Fabric Stores, and most sewing machine dealers for about $2 a spool(150 yards).
