There has long been a strong demand for first editions of The Hobbit and with the approaching movie this book will go throught the stratosphere.  This would be the ultimate gift for any Tolkien reader.  Get one now before they are all in the hands of collectors or let it go and watch the prices simply become unaffordable.

 

The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien.   First edition, first impression, published in 1937, by George Allen & Unwin.  310 pages + adverts.   Soiling to boards, corners bumped with wear to spine ends and corners.  Slight soiling to decorative map endpapers.  The text block is complete with soiling to approximately 20 pages or so of which I have taken pictures of the worst.  Text is generally pretty clean with no tears to any pages.  Fading to top-stain.  Spine is rolled with no bowing and has slight cracking between pages 112-113, 144-145 and 176-177  but all pages are firmly attached and none are loose.  Please take a look at the several pictures I have taken to show the worst of this soiling as well as the aforementioned cracking. 

 

This book is presented in a quality facsimile of the original first printing dust-jacket, with the ‘e’ in Dodgeson crossed out.  The dust-jacket is housed in a removable Brodart protector.
