These are brand new, handmade, never worn, pair of size 3X (48”-52” waist) Drop Front Knee Breeches. Made of 100% Cotton Duck; Wine (Burgundy) in color. The back of the breeches is shown in green.
This is a basic item of every man portraying the time period between 1763 and 1820.
They are made of first quality fabric and sewn with premium construction techniques in a non-smoking, pet-free environment. All seams are double stitched (surged) for durability with 100% cotton thread allowing for optimum dye-ability. A substantial 4-inch gusset at the back allows for maximum adjustability and comfort. The 2 deep front pockets provide good storage and are secured with buttons.
Besides 1 button securing each pocket, there are 3 buttons across the front of the breeches. Each leg has 5 buttons, 3 down the opening and 2 for the tab closure which allows for adjustment. The pewter buttons we use are made in the USA.
These breeches are extremely durable and perfect for your re-enactor needs whether you are a gentleman, merchant, military man, or commoner. Authentically styled for the time period 1763 through 1820 when a man's waistcoats became shorter exposing more of a man's lower body. The Drop Front style was developed to hide the bulge of the crotch and to maintain the flat line of a man's front. (Please see Historical Notes at the end of this description).

General Fabric Care Instructions:
Cotton, Cotton Duck: Wash in cold water (the mills recommend cold water to help preserve the colors due to the amount of chlorine in the water); tumble dry; iron on cotton setting. Expect an approximate 2% shrinkage of the fabric upon washing. All cottons are pre-shrunk at the mill although there may be some additional shrinkage if washed in really hot water.

Historical Note - Knee Breeches: Worn by the military as well as the middle and upper classes. Breeches were traditionally made of wool or linen and either lined or unlined. The finest breeches were made from a very thin doe hide and fully lined. Breeches were normally cut to ride high at the waist. Favorite fabric colors included brown, blue, red, rust, gold, as well as shades of green and blue along with the tradional white. The legs were tapered and extended to 1 to 2 inches below the knee.
