This listing is for one blank flintsteel rod 3/8 in x 4 in.

This size of flintsteel is perfect for extended trips, long term heavy use, and larger survival kits. It will last for many hundreds of thousands of strikes. These flintsteels are so big you can use them to shave off pieces for tinder and then ignite it reducing the need for bringing along other types of tinder.

There is a reason why flintsteel is so popular, it is the best fail-safe fire starting device on earth! In fact, most reliable cigarette lighters incorporate a miniature flintsteel as their spark generator.

These rods are made from pure, solid sparking material like the small rods found mounted on the top of the popular magnesium-striker bars. You may have seen them being used in shows like Man VS. Wild with Bear Grylls or Survivor Man with Less Stroud.

There are a few different kinds of flintsteels out there (including some garbage) but these throw the biggest, hottest, and longest lasting sparks of any firesteel rod I've ever seen, these are the real deal. Our flintsteel rods have a custom composition that is easy to strike with almost any striker and still throws huge, hot sparks. If you ever get in a stranded situation you would be very glad to have one of these.

These work perfectly for starting camp fires, stoves, and impressing people with huge showers of sparks.

This rod will work just as well after being completely submerged in water and it can be used in the rain and wind. Great for camping, survival activities, scouts, and other outdoor fun. Excellent for practicing on different types of tinder and different conditions. If the time comes to use a smaller flint rod you will be ready.

FlintSteel:

Huge: 1/2 in is excellent for a scoutmaster, survival trainer, or super long term uses (or just for showing off ;). Find it in our eBay store in 4", 5", 6", and even 12" lengths!
Large: 3/8 in is great for extended trips into the mountains, long term use, or larger survival kits and is much lighter weight than the huge. Find it in our eBay store in 3", and 4" lengths.
Medium-Large: 5/16 in is on of my new favorite sizes for camping and backpacking. Large enough to last a long time but small enough not to add too much weight. Find it in our eBay store in 3" length.

Medium: 1/4 in is the perfect size for short trips or small or pocket survival kits. Find it in our eBay store in 2 1/2" and 3" lengths.
Small: 3/16 in the smallest comfortable striking size, great for day trips and scout teams. Find it in our eBay store in 3" length.
Smallest: 1/8 in excellent size for gluing or mounting onto things such as handles, walking sticks, survival kit containers, sewing into clothing, or wherever a fire starting device can be useful. Find it in our eBay store in 2" length.

Magnesium metal tinder rods: Find them right here.

1/2 in x 5 in: This size works well paired with any larger size flintsteel. You could make enough tinder to light a log on fire. Or you could throw the whole thing into the camp fire and you will have the brightest fire you've ever seen!

3/8 in: A good medium size goes well with any size flintsteel.

1/4 in: A small size magnesium rod, very light weight and great paired with any flintsteel. Great addition to even the smallest survival kits.
