The first dress in this 2-piece lot is just stunning and in very good condition.  With dry cleaning, it is wearable.  It is a beautiful coral color with coral color beads (front and back) and a black bodice.  Dates to the 1930's.  The fabric feels like crepe to me.  Has fabric covered buttons down the front with fabric loops for fastening.  Also has a hook-and-thread fastener at the waistline.  Comes with the original belt, which has a terrific art deco buckle.  Has 2 front slash/pouch type pockets.  Ruched shoulders.  Dress is full length, with a front slit measuring about 11".

Shoulder-to-shoulder:  16"
Bust:  36"
Waist:  28"
Hips:  39"
Total length:   58"

Condition:  One of the buttons is coming loose.  The belt buckle needs a few stitches (the fabric is beginning to come away from the buckle frame in a few spots, but it is minor) and it is also soiled.   The hemline of the dress is also soiled.  I really think dry cleaning would fix these flaws.  Also, in the back of the dress, I found one very small hole about 16" or so inches from the hemline, but it is really tiny.  There are a couple of loose threads at the waistline, but they just need snipping. Nothing is coming apart.  The ends are just sticking up a little bit.  The belt actually covers this, but I want you to know what you are bidding on.  There is 1 of the large beads missing and maybe 3 or 4 of the small beads, but other than that, I think all the beads are there.  The dress is actually in very good condition for being 80 or so years old and is actually wearable once it is dry cleaned.  Its a real beauty!

The second dress is a 1920's drop-waist silk dress with what I think is nylon decoration down one side and on the cuffs.  Its a beautiful copper color and the nylon is tan.  The buttons on this dress are for decoration only.  The dress has nice old snaps at the left shoulder and down the left side of the bodice so you can get in and out of it.  Has silk ties that tie in the back.  The right side of the dress has a ruched drape at the waist.  The left side of the dress has ruched nylon at the waist.  Each cuff has 2 snaps, as well as three of the same buttons that are on the front of the dress.  There is also a nylon pleated fan at each cuff.  Really nice.  This dress actually has a label in it, too.  I seldom find dresses this age with a label.  The label reads, "The Campen Bros. Company, Cleveland, The House of Service".  I did a little research and found this company listed in a textile directory from 1920, so you know its the real deal!

Condition:  This dress has been repaired over the years quite a few times.  Under the arms, it has been repaired with either a fabric tape or ribbon and that has gotten stiff and discolored over the years and is beginning to tear again.  There is quite a bit of this tape under each arm, so it isn't a little tiny area.   The underarms are the worst of the flaws and really need some kind of attention if you plan on wearing this.   There is some minor thinning of the silk in the back of the dress near the neckline.  Both nylon fans at the cuffs have dot-like staining, as does the pleated nylon running down the side.  There is a stain in the back of the dress about 8" above the hemline, which measures are 1" x 1.5" and it feels stiff, like something dried on it.  The front of the dress has several small dark colored stains, about half the size of a pencil eraser or smaller, and there are several stains that are larger near the bottom of the dress that look like water stains, the largest measuring about 3" x 4".  These are those ring-type stains you get when water hits silk and I think they might come out with dry cleaning, but I can't guarantee it with a dress this age.  The dress would really benefit from dry cleaning.

Shoulder-to-shoulder:   15"
Bust:  42"
Waist:  40"
Hips:  46"
Sleeves:  25"
Total length:  50"

Please don't hesitate to ask for more photos to clarify anything.  I'm more than happy to email them to you.

I've received a few questions about the size of the 1920's dress.  This dress is supposed to be baggy.  You can tie it in the back to make it smaller in the waist, but it is supposed to be loose everywhere else.  You'll notice that the 20's dress measures 15" across the shoulders, and the 30's dress measures 16" across the shoulders.  So even though there is a vast difference in the measurements of these dresses, the 20's dress is a very loosely fitting dress and the 30's dress is a form-fitting style typical of the 30's.  Hope this clarifies it.
