When it comes to the title section, eBay does not let you specify NONE.  This car does not have a title.     I listed this car about 2 weeks ago.  After about a day on the auction, a Canadian bid the Buy-it-Now price.    Then he/she disappeared.    Please don't do that to me again.

Here's the saga of this car.   I bought this car from the estate of a Harvard professor. I am a book dealer and I had purchased the deceased's  library and the family did not wish to keep this car - though they did keep the Porsche 911 - so I bought it.

I had a title and a bill of sale (signed by the executor of the estate).   I  didn't plan to register it right away (and pay the sales tax) as I was not going to put it on the road until I had use for it.   On January 24th of this year, my house burned and papers were destroyed.

I approached an auto reseller in my neighborhood about reconstructing the title.  I had the Mass Registration from 2010 and he thought it would be no problem (tow lot sell abandoned cars all the time without the original paperwork  - they own them when the storage fees reach a certain point and the owner has disappeared - so I thought this was doable).

It turns out that the car was last registered in Florida  and my friends interest in following this thread to completion waned.

I have no worries about writing a  bill-of-sale for this car.   First, I bought it,  Second, one of the professor's grandkids was on my son's little league team - years ago now - and my relationship with his daughter, despite the years, is a warm one.

So I have a 1986 Mercedes which was driven about 3,000 miles per year,  was professionally maintained and is in amazing condition.   The engine is a 6cyl regular gas.   When I bought it, I took pair of.
jumper cables with me to check it out and it started after turning over for less than 15 seconds.  .  It hasn't been started since last fall but I have no worries about starting it up again with a fully charged battery.

I have taken pictures of the seats - the front seats show almost no wear - I expect the back seats were seldom used.   I included a lot of pictures of the door frames - where you would expect rust  and there is none.

Seats are heated and have memory positioning for two drivers.   Car has a non-leaking sunroof and an excellent stereo (stock I believe) system. The color on the title is "grey". I had described it here as gold before I saw the title designation.   One could call it grey or tan or gold and you'd be in the ball park.   I think it leans toward tan and the cream colored seats are a good match for the body color.

Inside the trunk looked new l but I took the battery out of the car and placed it on the trunk mat for storage and there is now a square stain on the mat.   I should have known better.

I planned to take pictures of the engine as I was so proud of it's clean condition.   But during this moist winter, the headers now have superficial rust and there is some dustiness on the engine parts.

It was cared for by a local company called "The Mercedes Doctors"   It is easy to see that some of engine parts were replaced recently (well, only a few miles ago even if 4 years might  have elapsed).  The alternator is recent Bosch and it appears that the car was maintained with the best parts available.  Tires have very good tread and are Michelins.

It would be a car to drive and be proud of if your state will grant a new title with only the bill of sale.  Some will, Massachusetts won't.   With this condition and low mileage, it would be a shame but the drive train and the other pristine body components would let the buyer make money by parting it out.

I am not going to sell it to the first offer I am sure. If you low-ball me, I am sure to reject the offer - though my price could drop as it the car remains on ebay in my possession.  It is in the driveway of my burnt out house and I will not have storage for it forever.

I have been selling on eBay since 1996 and my feedback is 100% positive with almost 1000 rated  transactions.  As improbable as some of the circumstances are, they are the true story of this car.
