1975 TVR 2500M-Classic British lightweight

Trevor Wilkinson built his first special in 1947, but did not produce a significant number of cars until the late 1950’s, with the introduction of the TVR Jomar. The basic design of a hand welded tube chassis, double wishbone suspension, unstressed fiberglass body and drivetrain sourced from large manufacturers continued through the 60’s and 70’s.

The Grantura, Tuscan and Vixen as well as the cobra-killer Griffith were succeeded by the M-series which was produced from 1972 – 1979. The power plant of choice for Canada/USA bound 2500M’s was the 2.5l Triumph straight six. The 2500M was introduced at the Earl’s court motor show in 1971 with a production run of 946 cars over the six year run. TVR succumbed the “wedge” design mania in the late 70’s hence many collectors consider the M-series to be the last classic TVR’s. Some 30 years after its arrival in North America it gets increasingly harder to find a decent example with many in need of complete restoration or being heavily modified by many well meaning owners-this low mileage stock example is rare.

TVR 2500M “3353TM” landed in Toronto Ontario in fall of 1974. In 1999 it was sold by Mercedes-Benz dealer Steve Jones in Oakville Ontario to Robert Wuest with 52368 miles on the car. It was then sold to John Fellows of Calgary Alberta with 54500 miles on the car, from there I purchased the TVR in 2007. The current appraisal is $21000.00 Cnd

Covering just 56000 miles from new,  this TVR proudly wears its glossy red paint, the fiberglass body has been able to evade any damage for 37 years mostly living in a heated garage. Just like its sporting siblings, the TVR features a large forward opening bonnet for easy access to the mechanicals. The engine bay is factory correct except for the S.U carburetor conversion which increases hp by 11 to 117hp from its original 106. The engine runs great with good compression and only the usual minor oil leaks found in all classic British cars. The battery was new in 2010 as well the windshield which was replaced with a factory correct one sourced in the U.K. A most desirable option, the original sliding sunroof from British manufacturer Weathshield LTD,  works flawlessly to give the car a feeling of open air motoring. The car has Falken racing tires which are 95% new mounted on true Minilite wheels from the U.K. with TVR center hubs and a full spare. The original “T-SLOT” wheels come with the car. The interior, except for the seats, is freshly redone in black with red door insets and red piping. The seats are original with a small tear in the driver seat. The steering wheel was replaced with a black Moto–Lite in 2010 and all the smiths’ gauges work as they should. The car comes with a full history including articles, receipts for work and parts as well as a full shop repair binder.
