The band's most successful release, The Dark Side of the Moon spent 741 consecutive weeks (14 years) on the USA-based Billboard 200 album chart, the longest duration of ANY album in history. Additionally, the album holds the record of spending the highest amount of time on the Billboard charts, staying there for more than 1,500 weeks (that’s almost 29 years). It is one of three albums tied for the claim of second highest selling album globally of all time, selling over forty million or more units. In addition to its commercial success, The Dark Side of the Moon is often considered to be the group's defining work, and is still frequently ranked by music critics as one of the greatest and most influential albums of all time.

Sales of the album worldwide total over forty million as of 2004, with an average of 8,000 copies sold per week and a total of 400,000 in the year of 2002 — making it the 200th best-selling album of that year nearly three decades after its initial release.

A great complete 1st pressing of what is undoubtedly one of the most iconic albums of the 20th century!!!

ALBUM PLAYED FOR GRADING:

Yes – brilliant! - TOP AUDIO

Dark Side Of The Moon is a musical masterpiece and is also famously a very sensitive piece of vinyl. Worn copies can have a lot of surface sound even on musically complex and busy tracks like ‘On The Run’. I am a huge fan of DSOTM, and also highly critical of the audio performance. I just cant stand to hear a pressing that is worn or plays with anything other than great clear sound.

I am very pleased to say that this rare 1st pressing plays through with great, very bright un disturbed audio. This great record plays up to the high visual grading and beyond . Other than one short repetitive click at the start of 'On The Run' it really is a tremendous example. Strong sound free of any loud pops or clicks. It has not been over played, in fact its barely been played. The channels are clean and unstressed and there is not even a hint of distortion anywhere on the record. There is some light occasional static at the very start of the record and occasionally after that, but it is very light. The occasional very light static tic, but nothing prominent or repetitive or really that noticeable. The audio plays through with brilliant strong and clear sound. I would say it largely plays with EXCELLENT audio, peaking at NEAR MINT. This is the ultimate 1st press of DSOM, and even  with a few light spots of interference in the form of light static, it is a great listen. I will give a detailed account below:

 photo _G015753_zps1f351575.jpg

This great sounding record starts with surprisingly little static in that famous extremely long run in heart beat intro to 'Speak to Me'. Great clear sound, the track plays superbly with the occasional very light tic (the kind found on all vinyls) and no light pops. 'Breathe', another delicate track also sounds fantastically clear and the whole of the fist side really plays with superbly clear audio throughout. 'On the Run', so often heavily distorted and affected by clicks and hiss plays through with amazing clarity and bright loud sound.  There is a small scratch at the start of the track that causes ten repeat clicks but the rest of the track sounds superb. Some very occasional static and the occasional tic, but it is extremely light.

'Time' sounds great with super clear sound, no pops of clicks and very little noticeable static. This track just sounds amazing, its so bright and clear, and so is 'Breathe (reprise)' which is such a delicate down track and very hard to find with even half way clear sound. Here its just brilliant. Even the stunning 'Great Gig in The Sky', such a difficult track to find with clear sound, plays superbly. No light pops or clicks, just a bit of very light static in the intro and end of the track, but again nothing obtrusive. A great sounding record.

 photo _G015776_zpse4c76e81.jpg

'Money' kicks in side 2. with amazing clear audio, other than a light pop in the middle of the track. It plays with an amazing bassy, 'sonic' feel, the original sound that is very hard to find, and lost on most pressings. 'Us and them' starts with very clear sound. There is a bit of light static and a couple of light pops. This slight static is low level, infrequent, and very light, the kind you will find on most vinyl. This track is nearly always plagued by loud pops, clicks, static and even distortion, and this press has none of these, it just sounds clean and bright. 'Any Colour you Like' sounds superb, great clear sound. Any background static I have to insist is far in the background, and in no way dominates or interferes with the music. You have to get up close to the speakers to hear it. Some light static tics only. 'Brain Damage' sounds superb, bright clear sound leading to the albums climax, with a great pressing of 'Eclipse', with plays superbly, with brilliant clear audio. No pops or clicks or interference at all. Just great clear sound.

   Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

The record plays with staggering power, great audio with minimal interference to distract from the enjoyment of this great record. There is little surface or static noise between the tracks. Even at the end of 'Time' and the run in to the 'Great Gig In the Sky', it is clean, crisp and rich. There is the occasional light dust pop, and those clicks at the start of 'On The Run', but other than that there is certainly no distortion or obvious nothing repetitive noises anywhere

The music jumps out, with definition and clarity, particularly on the percussion instruments, and vocals, which come through with tremendous power. As is the same with the bass and drums, whilst the guitars come through crisp and clear. On the whole this lp plays with superb, clear bright audio. I have given  a detailed account and l believe I have been unforgiving in pointing out the slightest audio interference on what is a tremendous 1st ever pressing. I would give an overall audio grading of EXCELLENT to EXCELLENT PLUS !

 photo _G015756_zps35f8cbf5.jpg

THE RECORD – Visual Grading

A stunning piece of glossy vinyl, this rare 1st press is really thick and chunky, with amazing deep clear grooves. In daylight and under a spot light it looks pretty much unmarked, and that is extremely unusual.  A couple of faint whispy paper handling marks, and they are really light and one 3mm scratch at the start of 'On The Run'. A really wonderful example that has clearly been little played!   A really great example. Easily grades at EXCELLENT to EXCELLENT PLUS!

 photo _G015757_zps0a353335.jpg

THE LABELS

A lovely set of labels, largely unmarked with only a few light spindle traces. These are an great pair of labels that look like they've barely seen a turntable. A lovely set, they have no spindle wear, and certainly no writing, finer prints or other marks. Grading at EXCELLENT PLUS!

VINYL TESTED FOR ANY SIGNS OF WARPING:

Yes, NONE visible what so ever when tested be sight and on a moving turntable.

 photo _G015774_zps1a65f873.jpg

THE COVER

The Matt finish covers of  DSOM  have to be one of the most prone to wear, of all the classic vinyls from the sixties and early seventies. Being matt finish and not having the advantage of being laminated, these covers usually faired pretty badly, with serious ring wear and scuffed along the edges. The Spines are nearly always flattened, worn and scuffed. Not this one!

This 1st press comes with its original 1st Press Blue Cover. The 'blue-ish' tint covers that came with the first pressings, quickly changed to the standard charcoal black covers. And don't be fooled, these are complex different to all other covers from the UK pressings of DSOM. These covers themselves are rare and very valuable, and so hard to find with out heavily worn edges, corners and surfaces.

 photo _G015770_zpsafe4ad58.jpg

This 1st Press BLUE Cover has very little scuffing to the corners, and little rubbing along the edges, and that is virtually un heard of for DSOM. The opening edges are very square and un frayed, with there is very little detectable ring wear on either the rear or front cover, (well maybe the faintest impression on the rear only) . The back cover is nice and clean, again with only a very light  impression of the vinyl. The inside Gatefold is clean and with some light indentations and handling marks only. The Spine shows minimal wear only, and is a nice square example.  All round, this is a really amazing example that is largely unmarked.

And, this is an ORIGINAL 1st Press BLUE COVER, and a fairly light coloured one at that. Easily and strictly grades at VERY GOOD PLUS to EXCELLENT.

 photo _G015755_zps584c16d0.jpg

The album was originally released in a gatefold LP sleeve designed by Hipgnosis and George Hardie, and bore Hardie's iconic dispersive prism on the cover.

The Cover design was aimed to represent three elements; the band's stage lighting, the album lyrics, and Richard Wright's request for a "simple and bold" design. A spectrum of light moves through to the gatefold sleeve — an idea that Waters came up with.  Added shortly afterwards, the gatefold design also includes a visual representation of the heartbeat sound used throughout the album, and the back of the album cover.

The light band emanating from the prism on the album cover has six colours, missing indigo compared to the traditional division of the spectrum into red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. The concept was continued with two posters and a sheet of pyramid-themed stickers. One poster bore pictures of the band in concert, overlaid with scattered letters to form PINK FLOYD, and the other an infrared photograph of the Great Pyramids of Giza, created by Powell and Thorgerson.

In 2003 VH1 declared that The Dark Side of the Moon had the 4th-greatest album cover of all time,  and in 2009 listeners of the UK radio station Planet Rock voted the packaging the greatest album cover of all time.

THE INNER

Original plain black poly lined inner sleeve in great condition. No tears, stains, just some light creasing and NO seem splits at all!!!

And don't be fooled, these are completely different to all other inner sleeves from the UK pressings of DSOM. These inners are themselves rare and valuable, and so hard to find with out heavy wear, graffiti, tears and splitting.

Easily and strictly grades at VERY GOOD PLUS to EXCELLENT.

POSTERS - NEAR MINT

This 1st pressing of Dark Side of the Moon comes with BOTH original posters, in great condition. In flat MATT finish, these are not the same as the posters found in other pressings of DSOM.

A superb set with No tears or stains. Nice crisp edges. NO tape marks or pin holes!

STICKERS - NEAR MINT

Two original PERMANENT, Fasson CRACKBACK stickers, in Near MINT condition. No tears. Nice crisp edges. No tape marks or pin holes. The stickers will come in a separate envelope to ensure that they do not get bent or damaged.

The Dark Side of the Moon is the sixth studio album by Pink Floyd. The album was developed as part of a forthcoming tour of live performances, and premièred several months before studio recording began. The new material was further refined during the tour, and was recorded in two sessions in 1972 and 1973 at Abbey Road Studios in London. Pink Floyd used some of the most advanced recording techniques of the time, including multitrack recording and tape loops. Analogue synthesisers were given prominence in several tracks, and a series of recorded interviews with staff and band personnel provided the source material for a range of philosophical quotations used throughout.

The Dark Side of the Moon was an immediate success, topping the Billboard 200 for one week. It subsequently remained in the charts for 741 weeks (fourteen years), longer than any other album in history. With an estimated 45 million units sold, it is Pink Floyd's most commercially successful album and one of the best-selling albums worldwide. It has twice been re-mastered and re-released, and has been covered by several other acts.

The Dark Side of the Moon is one of Pink Floyd's most popular albums for fans and critics alike, and is ranked as one of the greatest vinyl albums of all time.

 photo _G015771_zpsa0851d3c.jpg

RARITY

Dark Side has been re produced in massive quantities, being one of the most iconic albums of the 20th century. On saying that, finding an original UK 1st press in great condition is extremely rare indeed. It is one of the hardest pieces of vinyl from the early 1970's to find with great audio.

The cover is almost impossible to find without serious wear, even modestly worn examples are scarce and this one is a brilliant example. Finding a great cover like this, with a great piece of vinyl, rare black inner sleeve and all the original and correct inserts, fantastic!.

A DSOM pressing in this type of condition is scarce. The vinyl is so often played so much, heavily marked, scratched, with noisy, poor and distorted sound. Any DSOM examples with a record in this type of condition, that plays superbly is very rare. An ORIGINAL 1st ever A2 B2 press, with ORIGINAL 1st Press Blue Cover and ORIGINAL posters and stickers, all in great condition, with TOP audio makes this very rare indeed!

GREAT COVERS WITH NO SEAM SPLITS, NO TEARS, NO WRITING, NO STICKERS.

GREAT VINYLS WITH NO LOUD CLICKS OR POPS, NO JUMPS OR REPEATS - GUARANTEED!

SCRUPULOUS EXAMINATION and TESTING; PLEASE NOTE:

This record has been play tested on highly sensitive equipment to ensure the sound quality and accuracy of description. I aim to give a precise and concise description of the sound quality, pointing out any defects so that you know what you are buying. I will not go into screeds of information about the nature of the songs, as I imagine that you already know them well. I aim to describe all items as accurately as possible, and offer a full refund on return if for any reason you are not completely happy with the item description.

.

VINYL SOUND - PLEASE NOTE:

The highest quality vinyl with clear sound is rare, and is what I always aim for. I only sell records that play with TOP AUDIO performance, super clear sound uninterrupted by hiss or other interference. Even with the cleanest copies you will find occasional static sound or occasional light tics during playback, caused by a build of dust in the grooves. This is clearly different from the distortion, loud pops, repeating tics or clicks that are found on heavily played and worn pieces of vinyl. Any static build up will reduce when played, and I advise a light clean should be given between plays for optimal performance.
