I have compiled a wealth of unique treasures, antiques and artworks from Asia with a fantastic and mysterious history from travels, China, Japan, Bali, Tibet, Burma/Myanmar, Cambodia, Taiwan, Philippines, Laos and Vietnam.
My fascination with Asia inspired me to move here from England and become an avid collector/buyer of Asian oriental antique statues, carvings, puppets, bronzes and unique objects, other items have been from years of collecting and accumulating from estates, private collections and auctions.
STUNNING SHAN STATE TEAK WOOD TEMPLE SHRINE STANDING BUDDHA WITH INLAID GLASS
This week I am listing some of the best wood and Paper Mache Buddha's and heads available on the market here in the North of Thailand, very old rare pieces fresh to the market from a private collection and a dealer friend, there are not many left here that I have not listed. This pair has hand cut glass inlaid on the gown and head.
Shan State is a state of Burma (Myanmar). Shan State borders China to the north, Laos to the east, and Thailand to the south, and five administrative divisions of Burma in the west. Largest of the 14 administrative divisions by land area, Shan State covers 155,800 km², almost a quarter of the total area of Burma. The state gets its name from the Shan people, one of several ethnic groups that inhabit the area. Shan State is largely rural, with only three cities of significant size: Lashio, Kengtung, and the capital, Taunggyi
Shan State, with many ethnic groups, is home to several armed ethnic armies. While the military government has signed ceasefire agreements with most groups, vast areas of the state, especially those east of Thanlwin river, remain outside the central government's control, and in recent years have come under heavy ethnic-Chinese economic and political influence, whereas other areas are under the control of military groups such as the Shan State Army.
Probably the biggest collection of vintage Buddha's on ebay.
America has had sanctions against Burma for 9 years because of the way the government and military Junta treat there own people, especially the working class and the poor, with the visit of Obama things may possibly change in the near future, ebay also backs these sanctions and when it suits them throw many items off of ebay with the name Burma, Burmese or Myanmar in the title, 100% of the items I sell are made by the working class and poor, most of whom now live in Thailand, this is how they survive so not only are they suffering at the hands of their own government they are also being made to suffer by America and ebay, these sanctions are not affecting the government or the Junta they are affecting the poor which defeats the object of the sanctions.
Due to the size, shape and being slightly fragile, some pieces will have to be specially wrapped, boxed and insured for loss only which shows in the shipping cost, I do not intend to take any chances with these pieces, better safe than sorry, it would be heart breaking to think it arrived broken and deserves looking after.
There are a lot of retired American, English, Germans etc living here in Thailand enjoying their last days in hotter tropical climes. With being out and about every day looking for items to buy I meet many foreigners living in strange out of the way places, I also do a lot of advertising in local papers etc saying I will buy any collections, Antiques and so on, things are starting to pick up, I am getting a few Thai ladies calling saying their husbands have passed away and have items that they do not know what to do with, there is some great stuff turning up.
