Item No. 8070
THIS IS AN OLD, PREVIOUSLY-OWNED ITEM ... it has much wear from use and age, including extensive overall oxidation which includes rust (no through-holes, though), verdigris, mineral deposits; it also has some mis-shaping, most of which can likely be corrected such as at the handles; a few bodily dings.
Close examination reveals that this is a hand-crafted vessel, as the lower hand-fusing of the pieces can be seen around the edge of the base; the handles are not soldered, but strongly attached via brads through the ends of the jardiniere; the four paw feet are soldered.
I've never seen lion handles quite like this -- with horn-like ornaments coming out from both sides of the lion's head and connecting serpentine at the top to form the handle.
There seems to be no maker's mark which could be further evidence that this is a fairly old piece. An interesting and striking piece for your favorite plants in the house or on the patio.
Exact age and origin unknown; we suggest early 20th century, possibly France or Italy.
Measures about 10" x 6" x 3-1/2" tall, and 12-1/2" long with the extension of the handles on the ends.
