HERE IS A VINTAGE MAHOGANY LIFT TOP SEWING STAND, OR TABLE.  THIS TABLE/STAND IS IN THE HEPPLEWHITE STYLE AND PRODUCED DURING THE FIRST HALF OF THE 1900's BY THE ROCKFORD EAGLE FURNITURE CO., ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS.  THIS PIECE HAS ITS ORIGINAL DARK MAHOGANY FINISH.

 THE STRAIGHT, STRUCTURAL LINES, WITH ORNATE HIGHLIGHTS, OF THE TABLES EXUDE LIGHT, BUT ELEGANT SIMPLICITY.  IT FEATURES A 'ROPE TWIST' BORDER AROUND THE EDGE OF THE TOP; SCALLOPED APRONS ON THREE SIDES; AND 'TWO' DRAWERS---THE LOWER ONE OPENS BUT THE UPPER ONE IS FALSE---BOTH WITH HEPPLEWHITE STYLE HARDWARE PULLS.  THE SLENDER, STRAIGHT TAPERED LEGS EXHIBIT FURTHER ELEMENTS OF THE USE OF GRACEFUL LINES IN THE HEPPLEWHITE STYLE/DESIGN FIRST INTRODUCED IN THE LATE 1700's. 

THE HINGED AND BRACKETED TOP WHEN OPENED LIFTS UP A 'TOP SHELF' OR TRAY TO FINGER TIP LEVEL.  THE SHELF, OR TRAY, HAS SEVEN DIVIDED COMPARTMENTS FOR VARIED, SEWING MATERIALS.  AROUND THE OUTER EDGE OF THE SHELF/TRAY ARE 21 PEGS OR SPOOL HOLDERS.  THE 21 SPOOLS OF DIFFERENT COLORED THREAD ARE INCLUDED WITH THE PURCHASE PRICE OF THE SEWING STAND/TABLE.  THIS STORAGE SHELF, OR TRAY, SHOWS THE ORIGINAL PAPER LABEL IN ONE COMPARTMENT.  SEE PICTURE #5 IN THE GALLERY FOR DETAILS.
