Have you taken a good look at the illustrations yet? A picture tells a thousand words and we most certainly didn’t sell this slip short with insufficient photos. Please don’t mistakenly imagine that you could come to our store and pick up a Henson Kickernick . . . cheap. And especially not this one because, as full slips go, this was precisely the sort of thing that placed the brand on an elevated plane. How much can be done to make a white slip look special? Well, my dears, allow me to answer because one or two features are nothing special. Only one or two. Firstly, here’s a hint: if you have a slip, with metal sliders, that’s reaching the end of its useful life, the sliders could be worth a small fortune one day, especially if they’re white (or black) and in good condition. Save them. These are not in the best condition and it’s close to a tragedy because everything else is positively divine. Right, we’ve done the satin straps . . . from which hangs the wonderful bodice: daintily lace-trimmed – twice, and between the two tiers are the tiniest pink flowers. One below each strap and the other in the middle – precisely the sort of thing we’ll never see again on a new garment (or undergarment). The gathering below the 34” bodice’s cups is wonderfully crafted, pretty to look at as well as doing its job. There’s the inverted vee that forms the separate high waist section and then, below that, there’s all that lovely, lovely nylon skirt that goes down, down, down, over you, until it gets to the hemline. (33” long. Pause for a breath here :o) The hem is cut to a scallop profile and then the lace was attached to create an effect that’s really not remarkably clever (or expensive) so why-oh-why wasn’t it done more often because it’s just about as charming as . . . a very, very charming thing. And pink flowers again. Four of them. What a complete waste of time, sewing four tiny pink satin flowers, complete with associated greenery, and it’s all going to be covered up by your skirt or your dress . . . that can’t be right, surely. There has to be a law that says, if you’re going to wear this slip, it has to be for a minimum length of time and you have to do your nails or sit at a dressing table, deciding how you’re going to have your hair cut tomorrow – or daydreaming about the possibility of the doorbell being rung, in a couple of minutes’ time, by quite the dishiest hunk you could ever imagine. And you’d have to answer the door, in your slip, trying to look slightly embarrassed whilst, at the same time, not trying at all to look drop dead gorgeous.
