About this product

Product Information

This stand-alone second chapter in the online epic Guild Wars introduces brave gamers to the continent of Cantha, an Asian-inspired land where large parties of allied wizards and warriors do battle for glory and territory. Expanding on the guild structure set in the original game, Factions features four new mission types, which encourage large groups of players to form alliances, in order to complete challenging quests and to wage war against other player groups for control of strategically valuable towns and outposts.

Similar to the first Guild Wars game, Factions offers a hybrid of small-scale cooperative gaming and "massively multiplayer" role-playing. Individual quests are completed in instanced areas, generated exclusively for the players in the party, while public areas, such as cities and towns, are accessible to all and support thriving, player-driven economies.

In addition to the war-torn land of Cantha, this second Guild Wars chapter features 300 new skills, 50 more questing and battle locales, and two additional character professions. The Assassin uses a teleport-like ability to specialize in stealthy attacks and quick kills, making up in efficiency what he may lack in honor. The Ritualist can access a unique set of summoning spells that allow the conjuration of arcane beasts to aid in combat.

As with the initial Guild Wars game -- but unlike most persistent-world online role-playing games -- no subscription fee is required to play Guild Wars: Factions. A copy of the first Guild Wars game is not required to play Factions, either, although original Guild Wars players can use their existing characters embark on the new adventures featured in the follow-up, or lead their new Assassins and Ritualists back through the adventures presented in the first game.

  • Pros and Cons of Guild Wars

If you're into MMORPGs but don't want to pay monthly, this is the game for you. Hours and hours of gameplay is included in each expansion, and you can link the accounts together and travel between the different continents from each expansion. Not only is there plenty of game for role playing, there is the one of a kind PvP built into each game. The ultimate goal of this game is not necessarily to get to the highest level, but to "build" your character with select skills that can be earned through quests, bought from skill merchants (or trainers), or captured from "boss" monsters in the game. The top MMORPG to compare this game with would be WoW: in Guild Wars, you cannot camp a spawn point for bosses; however, getting a party together if you are not trying to do a mission is unlikely ...

  • Guild Wars: Factions rules!

This is the first Guild Wars game I ever played even though it's the second release in the series. It can be played as a stand-alone game; the other two expansions are not required, although if you want to be able to explore the whole Guild Wars world you need all three. The game is very detailed and is a lot of fun. There are many, many hours of gameplay here and it's a lot of fun to interact with other players from around the world. It's a very challenging game as well, particularly in the combat system. It takes some time to get used to, but it's very satisfying to find a set of skills for your character which work well together. If you buy this game, I highly recommend that you visit the Guild Wars website and look under the Community section for links to fansites... there's a site ...

  • Very good stand alone title in the GW universe

A very needed addition of skills and new areas to explore. I started out with prophesies and then got this one for the new content and it was worth it. You can use your prophesies character to go into Factions(Cantha) and play the campaign without leveling up first. There reason why this isn't excellent is because the game is a lot shorter and in my opinion too much of it is in a huge run down city. Make sure to pick this up if you want to participate in alliance battles and other guild related activities. WELL worth the price

  • Best MMORPG. Better than WoW for compaing

I tried WoW long time ago. I have also played a couple of other MMORPG, and other Blizzard games like Diablo II. So what is special about Guild Wars? The campaing. You can hire henchmen so you don't have to look for a live party. this is great, because if you are going to play for an hour or so, you can just play, and not have to spend 30 minutes (or more) looking for a suitable party. If you like to play with real people, you can still look for party for the campaing, or play the PvP parts. If you have also Nightfalls you can build up your own heroes, which are like henchmen, but you can control more. Also, the top level is level 20, so you won't be spending all your time leveling up, more likely you will be playing for the story and to get cooler armor or items, or just build up titles. ...

  • I liked, because it completes profecies but...

Guild Wars Profecies, is an almost complete game by itself. I find factions, with a few complications, and not as good as profecies. I wish they had done something similar to profecies, where as you progress in the game the level of enemies also increases. But by the time you get to the mainland everyone has to be lvl 20, and with most of skills. I do not find it as good as profecies. If you do not have guild wars, buy profecies first then get factions. To get an Idea... It took me about 800 hours to get to the end of profecies, and complete everything there was to it. And about 200 hours of playtime in factions. Currently I have 1400 hours of playtime, that tells you how much I like this game. It is way better than playing most video consoles games. And there is no CD that might get ...
