Up for auction a great item extremelly rare to find. After end of big war called Guerra Grande, a regular  postage stamp service was impulsed by Atanasio Lapido, a company Mensajerias Orientales together with Correos del Estado made the first transports. For transport the Diligencia vehicle was used (a horse traction carriage) for that reason first uruguay postage stamps have that word DILIGENCIAS. These stamps were aplied on covers, and transported together with people.

Here you are buying a ticket that people bought to be transported in these postage vehicles. Note the word CORREOS DEL ESTADO that means Uruguay post.

This ticket was for a transport from Colonia to San Jose in 1877 for two seat. Bears postal chief signature

AUTHENTICITY: There are numerous counterfeit of Uruguay classic stamps. Some very dangerous so hard to establish whether they are genuine or counterfeit stamps. TOPIC PICTURED: The ticket as well the diligencia stamps were a lithography done by Mege & Willems shows the vehicle and 6 horses leaded by a "baqueano" who leaded the way.

On big lots we do not hide flaws, but a tiny cut short perf etc. as you may understand could happen, is normal,  but never in a key value!. If a nice stamp is a pitty to discard we will include in lot at last column and facing down.
On individual stamps we check them carefully describe as best as we can. Some cases you have images of front and reverse.

PRICING:  Well classified stamps ! as we carefully classify stamps using various catalogues Scott - Stanley Gibbons ( for British Commonwealth ) - Sassone ( for Italian stamps ) - Michel ( for German stamps ). On large lots, in most cases, we place stamps in order so as you can manage to check images with your catalogue. Our prices ranges from 10% to 50 % cat value !
