Arizona Diamondbacks Tickets
The Arizona Diamondbacks were founded in 1998. And in 2001, just four short years later, the team won its first World Series championship against a formidable New York Yankees team. This remarkable victory made the Diamondbacks the youngest expansion team in history to win a World Series. Also known as the D-Backs, they became the first professional sports team in Arizona to win a championship. Notable players for the Diamondbacks include Luis Gonzalez, whose hit won the World Series, and all-star pitcher Randy Johnson.
Chase Field, Home to the Arizona Diamondbacks
Chase Field in downtown Phoenix, Arizona is the first retractable roof baseball field built in the United States. Originally called ""Bank One Ballpark"" from 1998 to 2005, Chase Field is referred to colloquially by Diamondbacks fans as ""The Aircraft Hangar"" or ""The BOB."" Chase Field has a swimming pool in right-center field and is one of two stadiums that have a dirt strip that runs between the pitcher's mound and home plate. Chase Field hosted the 2011 All-Star Game as well as three rounds of the World Baseball Classic in 2006.
Arizona Diamondbacks and the National League West
A relatively young team, the Arizona Diamondbacks have shown their ability to win in the National League West despite some challenging seasons. In 1999, the D-Backs claimed their first NL West title with 100 wins in only their second year. More division titles followed in 2001, 2002, 2007, and 2011. They advanced to the NL Championship Series in both 2001 and 2007, winning the NL pennant in 2001. In 2001, they also beat the New York Yankees in seven memorable games to win the World Series. Team rivals include two fellow NL West contenders: the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants.
Arizona Diamondbacks 2012 Team Outlook
After winning just 65 games in 2010, the Arizona Diamondbacks managed to win the National League West last year and nearly upset the Milwaukee Brewers in the divisional round of the playoffs. In 2011, the Diamondbacks were led by a duo of superb starting pitchers, Ian Kennedy and Daniel Hudson, as well as many talented position players, including shortstop Stephen Drew, catcher Miguel Montero, and right fielder Justin Upton. The core of the team will remain intact for 2012, which should make them a favorite to repeat as champions of their rather weak division. However, both Drew and Montero will become free agents at the end of the season: If the Diamondbacks wish to stay competitive after 2012, they may want to extend these players before it is too late.
