College Sports Tickets

Many of the most legendary franchises in sports history have come, not from the professional organizations, but from colleges and universities. Collegent sports are organized and funded by institutions of education. Students and alumni root their team on during various athleteic events.

n the 1840s, boating clubs were founded at Yale and Harvard. In 1852, the two schools met for what is believed to be history's first intercollegiate sporting event. In this period, baseball was fast turning into the national pastime, so that sport quickly spread to campuses, too, and baseball games between colleges became popular events. The year 1869 saw the first college football game, between Rutgers and the school now known as Princeton.

Football is probably the most-followed college sport, and the teams that make up the NCAA Division I are the most prestigious. The postseason in Division I football is unique. Teams are ranked based on polls and computer-based analysis. After the regular season, the best teams participate the Bowl Championships. In 1998, the BCS National Championship Game was instituted to pit the two top-ranked teams against each other for the title of national champion.

College basketball is also popular. Each season of NCAA Division I basketball culminates in March Madness, when 64 teams are chosen to compete for the national championship. These teams face off in a single-elimination tournament. After one weekend, only the Sweet Sixteen remain. The next weekend reduces this to the Final Four. At last, the top two teams play each other in the championship game.

There are countless other athletic competitions between colleges–for example, baseball, track, golf and tennis. And although big-name universities received most of the attention, there are hundreds of smaller schools with active sports teams as well.
