Jimmy Buffett started his music career on the street: in the 1960s, he busked his way through Nashville and New Orleans until reaching the Florida Keys in the 1970s. Inspired by the laid-back beach atmosphere, he made Key West his home and cultivated the beach bum persona we all know and love today. His first hit of the 70s, Margaritaville, showcases the “Gulf and Western” style for which he’s become famous. Throughout the 1980s, Buffett enjoyed a lucrative touring career and made far more from creating memorable concert experiences than from recording new songs. But new hits keep coming: in 2004 Buffett released his 26th album, License to Chill, which reached #1 on the Billboard 200.
