Kansas City Royals Tickets

Since 1973, the Kansas City Royals have been competing in Kauffman Stadium. The Royals replaced the Athletics as an expansion team after the Athletics moved to Oakland in 1967. Their name is derived from a combination rodeo-livestock and horse show called the American Royal. The Royals have played in the World Series twice, winning once in 1985; and the team made the playoffs a whopping seven times during a period from 1976 to 1985. Recently they have not been as successful, having posted a winning record only once in the 2000s. Several famous ex-Royals include Bret Saberhagen, Frank White and George Brett.

Kauffman Stadium, Home to the Kansas City Royals

Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri has been home to the Royals baseball club since 1973. Nicknamed ""The K,"" Kauffman Stadium is named after the former Royals owner Ewing Kauffman and is the only American League stadium to be named after a person. A stadium with a modernist design, Kauffman Stadium was built as a ""cookie-cutter stadium"" but was never used for other sports besides baseball. The park was renovated between 2007 and 2010 at a cost of over $250 million, and together with the Kansas City Chiefs' Arrowhead Stadium, make up the Truman Sports Complex.

Kansas City Royals and the American League Central

The Kansas City Royals face tough competition within the American League Central against the Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers, and Minnesota Twins. As previous members of the West Division, the Royals won six division titles. Unfortunately, since joining the Central Division in 1994, Kansas City has yet to win a division title. Altogether, the Royals have won two American League pennants and one World Series title in 1985.

Kansas City Royals 2012 Team Outlook

The Royals had yet another bad season in 2011, but for the first time in quite a while, there are signs for hope in Kansas City. The Royals, the quintessential small-market team with a small-market payroll, have been slowly developing a vibrant farm system, which has been aided significantly by a bevy of top draft picks. All of that meticulous work began to produce rewards last year with the debut of top prospects like Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas. In addition, general manager Dayton Moore has made some interesting offseason moves that could really help the team in 2012, including trading for starting pitcher Jonathan Sanchez and signing setup man Jonathan Broxton. If their young players can develop on schedule, the Royals could quickly make themselves relevant in the American League Central.
