Marching Band Tickets

Marching bands and the events in which they are featured hold a long and fascinating history. When large armies gathered in formation to march, military officers found that an organized system of counting steps and giving commands in time to a beat helped to keep soldiers in line. Drums were incorporated to keep tempo steady throughout a mass of hundreds of men, and quick, precise moves kept lines and ranks straight and even. Entering the field of battle was much more efficient when soldiers were able to march swiftly as a unit; thus, a band of marching men were formed. When instruments were first added, the easily heard trumpet and other brass pieces were most popular, with the introduction of woodwinds to come shortly after. Even the uniforms of the marching musicians, neatly pressed and embossed with specific emblems and badges of pride, appeal to the unique military history which shapes their traditions.

Now, marching bands are a popular attraction at sporting events such as football games, as well as in competitions formed specifically to test the skills of bands from across the country. Marching band events are typically categorized by the size of the band, the age of the performers, the type of marching and music they specialize in, and the function of the band itself. Marching competitions often feature children as young as 13 to 14 years old in high school level events, and the most talented of these students have been seen to progress to national championships held at major university stadiums. In addition to playing music with exceptional skill, marching band performers must memorize and execute exceedingly challenging marching routines. Color guard performers may accompany the band, twirling flags, rifles and other elements to add real excitement and aesthetic value to the show.
