What to Expect at a San Francisco 49ers Game
Fans of all backgrounds are sure to enjoy a trip to a lively, clamorous San Francisco 49ers game. The team's home in the San Francisco Bay Area features slightly chilly weather, and visitors should be prepared for daytime sea breezes and chilly nights. Tailgating is popular before every 49ers game; guests from around the region will congregate with their food and beverages, and visitors are encouraged to take part in the festivities. Guests will also have plenty of opportunities to chow down on fresh burgers, hot dogs, sea food, and desserts within the stadium.
San Francisco 49ers Candlestick Park
Famed Candlestick Park was originally built for the San Francisco Giants baseball team. The NFL's 49ers moved into the stadium in 1971, sharing the space until the Giants relocated in 2000. The stadium currently seats 69,732. In 2015, the 49ers will move to a new stadium, retiring another legendary sports facility. Candlestick Park played host to the last live concert by The Beatles in August of 1966. The Loma Prieta earthquake struck in October of 1989, causing minor damage to the stadium's structure; no one inside the stadium was injured.
San Francisco 49ers 2011 Team Outlook
Jim Harbaugh will be expected to work his magic and finally restore the San Francisco 49ers to their former glory after several mediocre seasons. Harbaugh has some tools to work with on both offense and defense in his latest rebuilding project. The 49ers return with one of the NFL's best rushing defenses. They allowed just 1,657 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns, ranking in the top 10 among NFL teams in both categories. Patrick Willis is an elite middle linebacker who plays like a younger version of Ray Lewis. If Frank Gore returns healthy, the running game will be in good shape. Gore tallied 1,305 yards and five touchdowns before a hip injury ended his season. Alex Smith has been inconsistent at quarterback, but he will get one more shot to prove he can be successful.
