AMAZING SINISTER ELECTRO FOREFATHERS !! ABSOLUTE HEROES
3 of 3 found this helpful This is the first of the three American released Goblin compilation albums, featuring some of their finest tracks taken from the genius horror movies of Dario Argento between 1975 and 1989, as well as those by other big name horror directors such as George Romero and a funky few from Italian TV shows !
Goblin are a pre-electro prog rock band from Italy and many of their tracks still stand up today in modern electro clubs and DJ sets. Some of the most sinister music you are ever likely to hear (even without the films' horror visuals !).
The main hero behind it all is the Goblin mastermind Claudio Simonetti who plays keyboards, synths, organ and violin on their tracks. He teamed up with varying members of the band who brought guitar, bass, keyboards, synths, acoustic guitar, drums, percussion and piano to the mix, along with the most sinister instrument of all used, the mandolin :)
At various points, Simonetti was the only member of Goblin left, but he soldiered on, churning out classic horror movie "electro rock" tracks for his friend the director Dario Argento. At times even after Goblin had split up for good, they would reunite just to score new horror films for Argento, showing their dedication to his cause of fine film music scores and delivering every time.
Goblin have been sampled more than any other prog rock bands of the era, perhaps most famously for Justice's "Phantom" which is basically 95% Goblin's "Profondo Rosso" with just a few extra beats thrown in to disguise it slightly ! There is a Profondo Rosso video on youtube showing the very few musical differences between Goblin and Justice versions of the same track (the video will also give you an insight in Argento's horror genius !). If perhaps the 2007+ finest electro band of the moment (Justice) has great success using Goblin tracks then you should take note of how amazing and groundbreaking these guys were :) They are also heavily favoured by other electro and prog rock artists such as The Chemical Brothers and Tortoise...
This compilation album features 27 tracks, including various different versions / arrangements of the same songs used in certain films. They are all taken from the Dario Argento and George Romero etc films they originally were used in so some moments will sound very horror (!) but you'll be amazed at how ace Goblin are !
This compilation also features liner notes by Didier C. Deutsch explaining a bit about the band etc...
I guess you can tell I am a huge fan of these chaps, you will be too if you give them a chance either by tucking into one of their CD's or by enjoying a Dario Argento film and marvelling at the finest and most sinister (electro style) movie music you've ever heard ! The Suspiria main title music is probably the scariest horror music ever written and its featured here along with music from 15 films !! :)

Interesting for Star Wars fans and their kids !
2 of 2 found this helpful Ok so the two spin off series Ewoks and Droids were never as good as Star Wars itself, but still aimed to please and a nice bit of background on some characters and settings.
This is a 2 DVD boxset covering all the episodes of the Ewoks cartoon in all their "glory". Your kids will love these, probably a lot more than you will if you havent seen them, although definitely worth checking out if you're a Star Wars fan anyway :)

Excellent bemani/DJ game and keyboard + scratching deck
2 of 2 found this helpful This is a direct port of the very successful Beatmania arcade cab rhythm action games but with added American-friendly tracks to DJ to...
Much like Taiko No Tatsujin (drums) or Pop N Music (notes) or Guitar Freaks (like Rock Band / Guitar Hero etc), this game is ever-popular in arcades across Japan and being more difficult to master, there is more Kudos to playing the faster tracks on this than on the other Bemani (rhythm-action) games.
There have been many Beatmania games on PS1 (that only work using a PS1 Beatmania controller) and a few on PS2 in the Japan NTSC region, but this is the first release tailored for the west.
This controller will work on any PS2, whereas the game only works on a US NTSC PS2, however if you have access to a Japanese PS2 then I'd highly recommend getting some of the other Beatmania II DX PS2 games to play on this as they have some amazing tracks not featured here.
Also, this is great in 2-player if you can get hold of a second controller.
