Shaped bolt cover panels hide the bolt cover holes at the footboard. The side and foot rails, which are bare wood, were designed to have a valance attached. The superstructure lends itself to being dressed with romantic fabric drapes.
The maximum mattress opening is 4ft 5⅛” wide by 6ft 5⅛” long, therefore a standard 4ft 6” wide mattress will still fit. The bed incorporates a single-tier structure, with a single carved floral panel headboard, flanked by a bank of ring turned spindles below an arched moulded headboard.
Decorative blind fretwork detail is visible to the side rails and rails, along with the headboard and rails. To the bottom of the bed, the two-tier footboard incorporates multiple ring-turned spindles below a horizontal ring turned rail.
The style of these beds dates from 1840 until 1947 (until Indian Independence). The beds were constructed for the British Raj, their families and the British Military in Colonial India. They were made when the Raj was at its height.
This is a superb quality bed finished in a dark brown oak colour, having been handmade from a combination of predominantly solid oak & other hardwoods. The bed is in the style of the English Tudor period, which dates from 1500 to 1530.

The carved open fretwork detail to the mirrored lion and unicorn crown is spectacular; this is evident in the floral carvings visible on the crown. The bed incorporates moulded side rails and rails to the head and footboard, which are, adorned with blind fretwork floral carvings on a pitted background.
