Last generation makes it a great item at a great price
Not quite as cutting edge as the Kindle Paperwhite or the Nook Glowlight Plus, but I actually find that I use it just as much as either of the other two for one very important reason -- it has the best support for larger fonts. This feature in itself is so important for comfort that I use it as much as my Paperwhite 3rd generation. It has a backlight which is by far the most important feature for any ereader. It also has excellent support for straight PDF files. The dictionary/wikipedia support is not nearly as good as the Kindle Paperwhite. Given that it is a last generation, you can get both the item and accessories --such as high quality leather cases -- for very reasonable prices. You need a nook for ePub formats, so buy this model (skip the Glowlight Plus) AND a kindle paperwhite (2nd or 3rd generation will due), then hit your local library and sign up for an Overdrive account and you will have easy access to all the free electronic books you could ever read in a lifetime. If you are weary of technology, fear not. This is the one type of gadget that you can safely invest your time and money in. Even the Amish should all buy themselves eReaders. In fact, *especially* the Amish as they could especially prosper from backlights that allow one to read comfortably in the dark.

Good device
I got this device as used and at a deep discount. First I charged completely. Then I had to reset manually to factory setting by pressing power and home button at the same time until device turned off. After I turned it back on I selected reset option. I then had to connect to my pc to manually download software update from BN website. I followed instructions on website and in a few more minutes I was able to connect to Wifi and link my account. Without updating the software wifi will not work. I spent about 20 minutes resetting and getting download file. If this seems like a lot then don't get this device and pay over $80 for used newer models or over $100 for new. The way I see it I saved over $80 with this one. I had original Nook and loved it but they don't support that one anymore and I got tired of playing with view settings on my ipad. I prefer to read paper or eink. Sad I can't add mp3, customize screen saver or expand memory but loving the soft glow feature for evening reading. Happy about the bargain price.

"Nook Glowlight is good"
I've had the Nook a few weeks now. It's taken many phone calls, endless computer questions, a couple of trips to the library, frustration and tears, before I could navigate this eBook reader. I'm still learning, but, finally getting to read my first book, is such a thrill! I love the Glowlight, as I can read anytime, anywhere. I find no fault with the Nook itself, but it could certainly use an upgrade in the navigation department.

Huge improvement over my simple touch
Light weight, soft rim is easy to hold, long battery life, glow light has great illumination and it is easy to adjust all of the features I really like it.

Good but not excellent value
My wife has an Aura Kobe, at twice the price. The following features I like on the Kobe which the Nook is lacking. A reverse screen. Background is black and text is white. Ability to delete books. More extensive setting features. A very good quality display. A superior firmware/software. The menu button on the bottom panel is annoying. The Nook advertising is annoying. But, for the price it was enough for my needs.
