Blower Motors for Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Keeping your Chevrolet Silverado 1500 comfortable while youre driving is a priority. As good as the climate control system on your Silverado is, without a properly functioning blower motor, youll never get to enjoy any of the comfortable cabin temperatures your Silverado 1500 can provide. Thats why its so important to make sure your blower motor is always functioning at peak capacity.

How do you maintain Silverado pickup blower motors?

In order to keep your Silverado 1500s blower motor operating at its peak, occasional maintenance is a crucial part of the overall care of your pickup truck. If you should notice a degradation in the performance of your Chevrolets blower motor, performing maintenance on the motor is a good first step, especially given its easily accessible location. There are some things you can do as well to maximize the Chevrolet Silverado motors life span.

  • Keep it clean: Even though your Chevy Silverado 1500s air filters do a great job of minimizing the dust that enters the cabin, your blower motor fan can still collect dust over time. As this part is so precisely engineered, a buildup of dust can lead to performance issues. After taking the blower motor out, wipe a damp cloth over the fan blades to remove all traces of dust. This allows the fan blades to spin more easily and freely.
  • Keep it moving: Within your Chevrolet Silverado 1500s blower motor, there are several moving components that need to be properly lubricated to perform optimally. With the blower motor removed, use grease or silicone lubricant on the point where the fan blades connect to the motor to ensure they can turn easily for a long time to come.
  • Keep it rested: Though your blower motor is there to move as much air as you need to help you feel comfortable in your Chevrolet Silverado 1500, leaving it on for needlessly long periods can shorten its life span. Once youve reached a comfortable temperature in the cabin, turn the fan down so that it doesnt have to work as hard and wont wear out as quickly.
How do you replace a blower motor in a Silverado?

Replacing the blower motor in your Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a fairly easy way to make a big improvement in your comfort if the motor is causing you issues. Just ensure that you select a correctly sized replacement motor so that it will fit in the motor compartment and be able to adequately cool and heat your truck.

  1. Remove the interior trim piece under the Chevys glove box by removing the four bolts holding it in place.
  2. Remove the fan cover by removing the bolts holding it in place. Next, pop the cover off, remove the electrical harness attached to the blower motor, and completely remove the cover.
  3. Remove the motor assembly by pulling down on the attachment clip and rotating the assembly counterclockwise.
  4. Install the new assembly by sliding it into the housing, and then rotate it clockwise and snap it in place.
  5. Reinstall the electrical harness on the Silverado by snapping it back into place. Then, reinstall the fan cover by putting in the bolts holding it in place. Test for proper operation, and then replace the interior trim piece with the bolts holding it in place.
