You then shift into your chosen gear using the shift knob, and the car does the rest.

If your Jetta has a clutch pedal and a stick shift, then it has a manual transmission. If it has no third pedal, then it is automatic, and it may also offer Tiptronic mode. Both types of transmissions use transmission fluid, but automatics depend on the fluid to shift gears, which is why the fluid levels should be checked and changed out routinely.
