Halter Neck Bridal Dresses
For wedding dresses, halter tops are a popular choice because they accentuate beautiful shoulders while still maintaining a classy look. But, if you’ve decided that you want a halter neck wedding gown, you still have many other decisions to make. Some of these decisions include the shape, color, embellishments, and material of the gown, and the decisions you make will be based on your body-type and personal preferences.
What are some of the shapes that a bride can choose from?There are several shapes available with a halter neck style including:
- A-line: With this shape, the material hugs the body closely until just above the hips, and then slowly extends out from the body to the hemline.
- Empire: This shape is very similar to the A-line, except the material hugs the body until just below the bust. Both styles are flattering for women who are body-conscious below the waist because they hide rather than accentuate bumps.
- Ball gown:The ball gown is usually fitted at the top, but the skirt is quite voluminous. This style is also flattering on many different body types.
- Mermaid: This style of dress is very fitted throughout the body, but flares away at the knees, much like a mermaid’s tail.
- Trumpet:The trumpet is very similar to the mermaid, except that it flares at about mid-thigh instead of at the knees.
There are many types of materials that a wedding dress can be made with and halter dresses are available in all of these materials. Here are a few common ones:
- Satin: Satin has a shiny appearance and slick feel. Its made from silk, nylon, and polyester.
- Silk: Silk is considered one of the most luxurious fabrics and has a soft texture.
- Organza: Organza is a thin, light, sheer fabric that is traditionally made from silk, but can also be made from synthetic materials.
- Tulle: Tulle is the same material that tutus are made from. It is common in ball gown wedding dresses but can also be found in many other shaped-dresses.
- Velvet: Velvet can be made from silk, cotton, linen, or wool. The material has a soft, luxurious feel.
- Chiffon: Chiffon is a light-weight semi-transparent material made of cotton, silk, and synthetic materials such as rayon and nylon.
Wedding dresses most often have embellishments made of lace, beading, pearls, rhinestones, crystals, sequins, buttons, appliques, or fabric rosettes.
How do you know what wedding dress size to buy?Your wedding dress size is not necessarily the same size as your street clothes, so it’s best to take your measurements and compare them to the manufacturer’s sizing chart. Measure your bust, waist, and hips. If you fall between two sizes, go for the larger size if possible. While it is possible to let a dress out about one size, it’s easier to pull a dress in since the seamstress will not need to be concerned with having enough fabric to alter the gown.
