Folding Chairs

Folding Chairs

Folding chairs are a type of portable seating unit. They can be set up on any level surface to provide extra seating when you need it. Some folding seats are more like a piece of household furniture while other folding seats are for furnishing a banquet, a party, or another special event.

What are the different types of folding chairs?

Some folding chairs are designed for outdoor use while others could be pulled up to a dining room table or folding table to enjoy a meal. These tips will help you to select a chair to suit your needs.

  • Casual - Casual folding seats typically have a tubular black, white, or grey steel frame. They may be upholstered or covered with a flexible fabric such as vinyl.
  • Banquet - This style is primarily for extra space when you are having more guests than your usual furnishings can accommodate. They are often made of black or white metal and come in a range of basic colours.
  • Camping - Camping folding chairs are weather-resistant and water-resistant. They may have a black metal frame and vinyl- or plastic-coated covers. Many of these chairs come with a separate waterproof bag with a nylon strap for storage and carrying.
  • Furniture - Wooden furniture styles of chairs that fold could be finished naturally with a contoured sitting area or padded upholstery. They coordinate with bar stools and other portable chairs.

What types of seats are available for folding chairs?

  • Fabric sling - These chairs conform to the contour of your body and support your weight.
  • Cushioned - These chairs may have a padded seat, a padded back, or both.
  • Wood - A wood folding chair is smooth and sturdy. It will not tear or bend.
  • Metal - Aluminum and black stainless-steel chairs have bottoms that get warm after you sit down for a while.
  • Foam padded - A padded seat has foam under a faux leather, polyvinyl chloride, or upholstered covering.

How do you fold and store a folding chair?

  • Folding chairs typically have one or more hinges that lock into place in order to prevent them from collapsing while they are in use.
    • To fold the chair, the hinge will need to be released.
    • This could be accomplished by putting manual pressure on the hinge, flipping the lock, or pushing on a lever.
  • Some foldable units do not have any hinges.
    • To close them, the sitting area usually lifts up at the same time as the back comes down.
    • With one hand, push up on the sitting area and push down on the back with the other hand.
  • Chairs with pivoting legs often require that the legs be folded inward so that the sitting area flattens onto them.
    • The sitting area collapses between the side bars.
    • Some chairs have an attached side table or awning that also folds down when a hinge is released.
  • After you fold the chair, one or more of the folding chairs could be stacked vertically next to each other or horizontally on top of each other.
