Engine oil is an important lubricant for your BMW X5, preventing all the moving parts of your engine from overheating. Without engine oil, the parts would get too hot and wear down over time, leading to the engine shut down. Keeping clean oil and oil filters for BMW X5 is an important part of your BMW X5 maintenance routine.

How does an oil filter work in a BMW?

Your BMW X5s oil filter plays an important role in the overall function of your BMW. As oil flows through the filter material, the filter prevents small bits of dirt and debris from going through your X5. If you did not have this filter, all that dirt and debris would flow into your BMWs engine. Over time, this would accumulate, causing the X5 engine to overheat. Having a properly working filter extends the life of your BMWs engine.

How frequently should a BMW oil filter be changed?

Owners manuals for BMWs state that models that are 1999 through 2013 only need an oil change every 15,000 miles. BMW models after 2014 recommend oil changes every 10,000 miles. However, most mechanics will recommend an oil change every 5,000 to 7,000 miles. You may also want to consider how many hours you drive your BMW. In larger cities, you may not drive as many miles as someone who lives in a rural setting. However, your engine is still running and using up oil when you sit in traffic.

How do you reset the X5 service light indicator?

The BMW X5 includes a service light indicator so you know when to get an oil change. If you change your oil yourself, you will need to reset this light manually. The light will not reset if at least 10 liters of oil have not gone through the engine. So if you change your oil more frequently than recommended, you may not be able to reset your light. • While its flashing, press the left button again briefly. An additional "reset" interval will pop up. If the words "end SIA" appear, the reset interval was successfully changed.
