  • CA Social realist BURR SINGER 20 x 35 oil Masks skulls Beckmann 30's 40's WPA

Strong piece by important Californian Social Realist artist BURR SINGER (1912-1992). This oil on canvas is 20 x 35 in, signed upper left. It depicts masks, some of skulls, in a grotesque style reminiscent of Max Beckmann, with a WPA feel to it. Bernice Lee (Burr) Singer was an important woman artist active in California and in St Louis. This piece must be from the 1930's, maybe early 40's. It's a great piece but has some issues; it could use a cleaning, relining, and taking care of the paint losses and small holes. But it has a lot of potential... Low asking price for a large painting by this artist , reflecting the condition. Please look at pictures;it's a restoration project ; AS IS. Thanks for looking. Good luck bidding.
