Galaxy S5 Active - Great for my lifestyle and needs

The things that attracted me to the S5 Active were the water resistance and shock resistance. I have never drowned a phone but I have broken several screens (glass and digitizer). I am active in small bursts and use my phone when hiking etc for pics. I occasionally drop the phone (my wife calls it clumsiness) so need something rugged. The S5 Active has been great. I was able to take pictures out of a hot spring grotto in the NM Valle Caldera with some faith that if I dropped the phone it would survive. The times I have dropped the phone I have cringed but it has done well. The power button often gets bumped and blanks the screen but I guess that happens on most phones. I had a bumper case for my S3 and it saved it from breaks but added a lot to the size. The S5 Active is not too bulky but has the protection. I like the Show Open Apps button. The Active button that brings up the compass, Altitude (always 500 ft low) and location coordinates is cool and was fun to play with in Colorado. I don't like the My Magazine screen that shows when you go all the way to the left on the home screen. I find I don't look at it often enough and it is just an annoying open app when I am trying to conserve energy. I have had the phone about 6 months and it has been great.

I've been waiting a long time!

First let me explain. I have been a windows phone user for about the last five years, I still like the windows platform, but I realized about 6 months ago windows as a phone operating system was going no where. I have been wanting a Samsung 5s for some time and I had also decided when the price went under $200.00 (NEW) that I would purchase one. I purchased this one and I have had absolutely no regrets. The switch was easy, all of the google apps. on my tablet transferred to this phone. Android has come a long way in the last five years, while windows has not. Way more applications than window and the apps. are actually useful. I love the phone the display is clear and bright, the phone feels good in your hand, just the right size. This is a great buy, not the latest and greatest, but if you don't mind being just short of the technology curve this is the phone for you. There is just one thing this phone doesn't have is wireless charging, and it cannot be added. Perhaps if I had it to do over I would buy the 5s and not the 5s active.

    Good Phone, good software

My wife wanted an upgrade from her Samsung Galaxy S3. She didn't know why she wanted to upgrade, but she wanted a 'newer' phone. I read a lot about the S5 and S6. I went with the S5 due to the S^ lack of memory card expansion and replaceable battery. I went with the S5 active for pricing. She likes it a lot! It has the most recent version of Android, and some interesting Samsung software we're trying out. The size meets her request for bigger bit not phablet size. She's happy, I'm cool in her opinion, so all is well. I would advise that the S5 active does not allow for wireless charging due to it's case design. The standard S5 would allow you to use after market add ons to wirelessly charge, but the Active does not. It didn't impact my wife's affection for the phone.

    Just as described

Phone came unlocked with a new ac adapter and usb charging cord. Minor dings on the outside of the phone but not easily noticeable. No scratches on the screen. Battery was about 88% when I received it and we were in below freezing temps when it was delivered and in route for delivery. All in all its a very good value. Because it is unlocked through AT&T it did do a system update within a day of connecting it to WiFi. I have no issues with that though. I did get a heavy duty screen protector and case for those just in case moments. And I have already dropped it in the sink with water in it and it still works just fine.

    Love it!

I bought this after thinking a while. I'm rough on phones and usually don't last long. So typically don't spend much on them. Thought I'd try these since there stronger and water resistant. I'm a welder and crawl around with phone and use it to take pics In tight spots. Have used to weld with as a viewing screen. Paired with a glass screen protector and a simple hard plastic cover. I'm 2 months and no cracks. Lots of damage to the cover tho. Spatter stuck to screen protector and not the screen. I love it. .... the bad is the battery life sux! Like hardcore sux! Only real complaint!

    Very good phone.

But, overall, I like the S3 better. It's more user friendly. The S5 Active has a better camera, better screen, but call and data reception is reduced for some reason. For example, I also have an Express 3. I can receive data and calls in a basement with no problem. The S5 Active, more difficult. You would think you'd get better reception for an advanced phone, sadly it does not. The S3 wins in that category hands down too. Don't get me wrong, the S5 Active is a good, but for an advanced phone, it should have better call and data reception. B+

    NICE PHONE :)

SAMSUNG ACTIVE 870A IS A GREAT PHONE !!! WORKS WELL, SOME APPS HAVE TO BE DELETED, BECAUSE OF RAM SPACE, WORKS WELL WITH A 16g micro SDHC flash card. THIS IS A TOUGH PHONE , BUT GET A GOOD CASE (ref) ( OTTER BOX WITH A BELT CLIP) CAN'T GO WRONG) !!! (This phone is better then the I-phone, you can get it wet, underwater, sweat on it, drop it, outdoor use, drop it in the mud, :) BUY ONE YOU WILL HAVE IT FOR YEARS, make sure it's unlocked !!!

    Over all good

It is a very good phone wished battery lasted more than just a day. I am not on the phone that much and do more texting than anything. While typing , the swipe feature makes you spell things weird. I have to constantly go back and retype what I want to say. So far no one has been able to take the swipe feature off. I am pleased with phone wished I could give it a 5 star rating.

    Ooops!

I like the phones apps even though I'm still learning how to use it. So far my only complaint is the back cover. It is as thin as paper and just as pliable. It has already broken. Had to purchase a new back cover and also a hard shell to keep from breaking again. Which I didn't want and was one reason I chose the S5 Active, I thought it was more durable.

Great way to fix an old broken phone - replace it with a refurbished phone

This was a replacement phone. My old phones charging port failed and local replacement cost was $100. I got a rebuilt phone, charger, and larger battery for less. I backed-up to my GOOGLE DRIVE and thenew phone loaded everything from there in about 15 minutes of data transfertime.
