Some strong selling points, with notable deficiencies
I chose this phone because the specifications said it has an FM receiver, it has a removable battery and is somewhat waterproof. While there are many good things about this phone there are a few things potential buyers should know.
- although it has an FM radio receiver, it is disabled from the factory and few carriers unlock it. You can use it for online FM stations, but if you want to listen to FM stations offline, first research to see if your carrier supports that. This is rather offensive since the specs listed the FM receiver, and FM boadcasts may be the only way to get information during a disaster that disables land line and cellular phone service.
- volume control has few "steps", so you can end up choosing between volume levels that are much too low or much too high with nothing between them
- default keyboard can't be customized
- no HDMI port
- no FM transmitter
- I'm used to an old Nokia N8, which had all these things. Plus a whole layer of control over settings deeper than this phone provides. You get the feeling you're just along for the ride and Samsung retains control of the phone you bought.
- GPS performance is excellent
- screen performance is nice
