Screen Digitizer for Nokia N8

Replacing the Digitizer Screen for the Nokia N8 Smartphone

Is the screen on your Nokia N8 cracked? It doesn't take much of an impact to break a screen digitizer, but you can find a replacement to repair it with. You can learn more about this process here.

What are the symptoms of a bad touch screen?

Touch screens sometimes fail more subtly than by getting cracked or shattered by a sharp impact. They can also wear out and develop other problems. A screen digitizer is made by sandwiching an electronic sensor grid between two panes of glass. If a part of that grid fails, it'll stop recognizing touches on that spot of the screen. It's also possible for the entire digitizer to fail to recognize any touches if its connector or cable are damaged or wear out.

What parts are needed to replace a defective N8 digitizer?

The Nokia N8's digitizer is like that of most smartphones, consisting of a glass digitizer screen that sits on top of an AMOLED screen. The two are separate components on the N8 smartphone, so you can replace just the digitizer if the color display isn't damaged. Often an impact can damage the digitizer and the display, so many repair kits contain both.

What tools are needed to replace the Nokia N8's touchscreen?

For this phone, you'll need a couple of unusual screwdrivers for removing star-head (pentalobe) screws. Torx T4, T5, and T6 screwdrivers should work fine for disassembling this smartphone.

How is the digitizer screen replaced on the Nokia N8?

Replacing the touch screen digitizer on the N8 smartphone is a fairly easy task if you have some experience with electronics repair. Follow these steps:

  1. Locate the two T5 Torx screws, one on each side of the phone. Remove them with a Torx screwdriver, and then remove the back of the smartphone.
  2. There's a battery retainer bracket at the bottom of the phone's back. Pop it open and slide out the battery inside.
  3. Pop off the top cover on the mini HDMI port. Remove the T5 Torx screw that's next to the port.
  4. Using your thumbs to apply back-and-forth pressure, remove the top cover of the phone.
  5. The screen comes off the front of the phone, opening like a clamshell. Disconnect the touch screen digitizer's cable from the phone and discard the defective part.

Connect the new digitizer's cable and reassemble the phone by following these steps in reverse order.
