Shepard Fairey, the founder of the Obey Giant campaign, is a contemporary street artist and designer. Fairey began his career with an Andre the Giant sticker in 1989 and is well-known for the Barack Obama "Hope" art he made based off an AP photo. Shepard Fairey's style is a combination of graffiti culture and political art that has been compared to the work of artists such as Andy Warhol and Banksy.

The bold poster style of the Obey Giant brand is often framed around criticizing or resisting propaganda or advertising. Fairey touches on other political topics, abstract material, celebrities, and ethnic issues. Shepard Fairey's Obey brand also depicts women, still-life, and military subjects.

Along with his political style, Shepard Fairey is also known for incorporating commercial art, fine art, and street art into his poster work. The Obey graffiti and sticker campaign founded by Fairey originated from the skateboard scene of the 1980s. Whether it is done with bold sharpies or intricate colour schemes, Fairey's urban style is crafted poster material.
