Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Wheel Center Caps

The Chevrolet Silverado 2500 is a full-size pickup that’s made to work. While you’re getting things done, you may not notice when a wheel center cap gets jolted loose. If you want your truck looking fine again, replacing the center caps is an easy repair.

Why should you replace center caps on a Chevy Silverado?

Like everything else on the Silverado 2500, the wheel center caps have a job to do. As you’re driving through mud, water, and road grime, the center caps are deflecting all that mess away from critical wheel components. They help protect the hub nut and wheel bearings from corrosion and premature wear.

How do you find Chevrolet Silverado 2500 caps that fit?

Chevrolet has used several different wheel center caps over the life of the Silverado 2500. They differ by size, style, and finish. Even within the same model year, the parts can differ based on the wheels that came with a particular trim package.

To be sure you’re getting a part that fits your truck, you should compare the part numbers. This takes the guesswork out of trying to decide if a center cap that looks right is really a match. You can find the part number on the back of the center caps.

What are the options for Chevrolet Silverado 2500 center caps?

Model years before 2011 typically have the hat style. That is, the wheel center caps have a domed center on a flat base. The base has eight holes with plastic covers that fit over the lug nuts. From 2011 on, the hat style is still used, but the caps may also be knurled. The following list gives a few specifics of the different styles:

  • 1999 - 2010: Before 2007, the caps were 8.5 inches in diameter with smooth faces. If your truck was made after 2007, it may have this style, or it may have an 8.25-inch style with a recessed face. Both types may be chrome or silver with eight black lug covers. They have the gold Chevrolet emblem in the center.
  • 2011 - 2018: If your Chevrolet Silverado 2500 made during these model years has the hat-shaped center cap, its typically 8.875 inches in diameter. It may be silver or chrome with a black center showing the gold emblem.

If the center caps on your truck are the knurled style, theyll be seven inches across. This style doesn’t cover the wheel nuts. They may be black or chrome, and the emblem may be chrome, gold-on-black, or gold-on-chrome.

How do you replace Chevrolet Silverado 2500 center caps?

If your wheel center caps have lug covers, you must loosen them to release the center caps. If your truck has the knurled style, you should be able to gently pry them off.

To install the center caps, align them with the index mark on the rim. The knurled style can be pushed in until the retaining clips lock into place. For the type with covers, tighten each cover over the nut by hand with a socket until it clicks twice.
