Incorporating RAM Server Memory into Your Computer Network

A computer network is made up of a collection of computing devices that use nodes to share resources, exchange files, and run applications. Whether it is a wired or wireless server, networks always include at least one motherboard and processor. These hardware components store dynamic data using synchronous dynamic random access memory (SDRAM) modules. Industrial network servers can include several thousand gigabytes (GB) of RAM in any given system. Individual RAM modules can have between 8 GB and 32 GB of memory.

Why Use RAM Modules in a Network Server?

RAM server modules optimize to increase the overall stability and performance of a networked group of computers. These memory modules often have improved error detection functions and higher storage capacity compared to RAM modules. Three of the most common functions of server memory modules in a network are:

  • Caching: The caching requirements of a network are similar to a desktop computer. When a network is accessed via a workstation, the dynamic data writes onto server memory rather than disk drive memory.
  • Server Stability: When connected to a network, server RAM modules can adjust for load-reduced functionality. This decreases the networks overall electrical requirements and reduces the performance degradation of the CPU memory controller. This feature of the server RAM increases the overall stability of the network, reducing the chance of unexpected shutdowns and decreasing voltage demand.
  • Error Detection: The most important function of server RAM modules is to detect internal errors in RAM chips. This function, which requires an additional memory chip, increases the reliability of discrete processing applications.

What Do You Look for in Network Server RAM?

If youre building a large computer network, its important that you understand what features are necessary in server memory modules. if your RAM server memory modules do not include the following three features, its likely that your server will have issues with data corruption, irregular shutdown, and sluggish application loading.

  • Virtual Machine Support: If your network is used alongside a virtual database, its important that your server RAM modules are configured to store and write enterprise-level workloads.
  • Error Correction: High-quality server RAM module kits should not only detect internal errors, they should also have an array of error correction functions. This type of server RAM is known as EEC memory.
  • Workstation Configuration: Server RAM modules also cache information accessed by a workstation user. Registered server memory, such as Wintec RAM modules, optimize workstation paging processes.
