The Austin Air Healthmate HM-400 HEPA Air Purifier produces fresh, breathable, clean air with the simple click of a button. The Healthmate uses a four-stage filter to remove everything larger than 0.3 microns from the air inside your house or room. The intake draws from 360 degrees around the air purifiers, while the outflow is from a top side vent. In stage one, a large particle pre-filter removes things easily seen by the naked eye. Dust particles, hair, and pet dander are removed in this stage. The air then enters stage two, where a medium size pre-filter removes small to medium size particles. This includes molds, spores, and pollen. Now, it is clean enough to enter the third stage, where it will flow through a HEPA air filter. This filtration uses approximately 15 pounds of activated carbon and zeolite mated together to remove chemicals, gasses, and odors. The last stage has HEPA or high-efficiency particulate air filters and removes most items larger than 3/10 of a micron after air has passed through the carbon/zeolite filter. If you or a family member suffers from an allergy or asthma, this machine can improve your general health by improving air quality. It can also help anyone particularly sensitive to the presence of smoke. This device is designed for 24-hour operation and constant use to purify any room. This type of unit has three speed choices for customized airflow and can also be used to produce white noise to improve your sleeping or resting environment. The Austin Healthmate is energy-efficient, so you'll continue to save on your electricity bill as you protect your health. These purifying health accessories have four rolling casters to allow for ease of movement. Use it in your house during the day for your allergy and in your bedroom at night for a refreshing sleep. Worth every penny
I've had asthma and allergy issues since I was a kid. I went thru two Hunter Air Purifiers, which were fine for a large room, but had to be moved around to be effective in the house. The Austin Air HM400 changed all of that. Within 30 minutes of turning it on, and placing it in the middle of the house, with all doors open inside, the house smelled differently, there was no dust, and my sneezing - even on allergy meds - stopped within three days. Yes, it's not cheap if bought at $538 list price, but the difference in air quality is amazing. It has three speed settings, with the lowest being barely audible, while the medium and high are definitely heard. When I had it on high initially, a phone caller asked if I was driving with the window down, but I was only five feet away from it at the ... I've had asthma and allergy issues since I was a kid. With a five year warranty on the filter pack, even though it is $214 to replace, the cost is every five years, not yearly. If the filter is filled up before then, you get a pro-rated replacement. Not much of a change in my electric bill, even running it most of the day, every day. It's worth every penny.

You can't go wrong with this unit .. though I will say we've only had it for several months, its performance is phenomenal thus far .. I did quiet a bit of research about brands, types, etc for air purifiers, and this brand was the "biggest bang for the buck" ... or so I read. We moved from south Florida to an northern area where smoking outside isnt possible for us during the colder winter months .. some of the inside areas were starting to get an odor from occasionally smoking, so before we were smoking full time indoors we decided to purchase a higher quality unit .. I chose this model and brand, and on eBay purchased a used one. Yes, even used it really does a great job. HEPA filter is expensive ($150) but as I understand it, will only need replacing every 3-5 years, which is fine. Its ... Impressive Air Scrubber
We use this Healthmate Plus in a police department evidence room that's in an old bank vault. This machine cleans the air of the aweful smells associated with all kinds of seized items from drug arrests. If it works for our use, it should easily take care of the problem areas of your home!

Product works well and I have had no issues with it. However, the shipping company that shipped it must have been rough with it as the metal had a few dents, and all of the plastic caster wheels on the bottom were completely busted to pieces. Other than that, the dents were easy to fix and the system works great.

After running it for just a couple hours after receiving it, there was a noticeable difference in the air quality. I have severe asthma and allergies and I found it much easier to breath. Also, I didn't need to use my rescue inhaler. It has been wonderful! It runs very well despite being previously used and manufactured in 2003.
