Il volume costituisce un omaggio ai quarantanni di attività di Luciano Pistoi (1927-1995), critico d'arte, promotore e organizzatore culturale, gallerista tra i più importanti e autorevoli in Italia. Il suo iter si è svolto tra Torino, Roma e il Castello di Volpaia, centri nei quali ha presentato tempestivamente gli artisti internazionali emergenti, scelti controcorrente con grande passione e intuizione. Ciò ha comportato di riflesso la formazione di un collezionismo colto e il rinnovamento dell'ambiente artistico coevo. Di famiglia toscana, giunse a Torino giovanissimo e negli anni Cinquanta scrisse come critico d'arte su "L'Unità". Nel 1957 aprì la galleria Notizie con una mostra di Wols e continuò presentando le opere di Fautrier, Pollock, Burri, Fontana, Dubuffet, Mathieu, Tobey, Spazzapan, Imai, Tàpies, Accardi, Gallizio, Twombly, Jorn, Shiraga, Riopelle, Francis, Nevelson. Organizzò a Torino mostre straordinarie, tra cui nel 1959, in collaborazione con Michel ...
