Novice Caster Here, doing 200 per hour

I have no prior experience with bullet casting, but have soldered before and melted lead before. I read the instructions, cleaned the mould with a Q-tip and lighter fluid - and used a candle to put soot in the bullet mould, and it was ready to go. I poured lead from my LEE 10lb pot set to "5" on an 80 degree day, and by the third pour the bullets completely filled the mould and were of shooting quality. I resized them with the LEE .356 die, coated some and plated others, and have been shooting them since! When the bullets started to stick, I simply added more soot from the candle.

    Lee 6 cav molds

I have three pistol molds now, Need to prep correctly before, clean and lube hinge, pins (I use antiseeze apply with tooth pick). Sprue plate I believe its the least desirable on these molds. If not super flat from factory some edges aren't as flat as they should and causes some drag in areas on the top of aluminum mold which galls up and can catch small pieces of lead to attach in deep scratches. Thus causing sprue from full flat contact ending with some flash on bullet base, with careful temp control flash can be minimized. Need to watch any minute lead buildup and use a razor to (carefully) remove. Otherwise a good starter mold but extreme car must be taken. I also powder coat, then use lee push through sizer die, for pistol pills they rock!

  • Good product worth the price I paid.

A good product for a start up mould. Seems to work quite well and was a good price. Although I purchased it used it was in very good condition with a few scratches on the handles but nothing that affects its performance. Good product I am glad I got it.

  • Excellent mold, great quality!

Pros: Light weight, fast heat up, fast production rate after initial pre-heat and smoking the mold, excellent quality as all Lee molds are, ready to load bullets right out of the mold with no need to size, just lube or powder coat. (Will need to resize if powder coating). Cons: None, except for not having enough lead to cast with this production worthy mold!

  • Great value for the price

LEE molds are good quality and are great for casting bullets for plinking, target shooting and some hunting of varmints. They cast a bullet which can be easily sized and lubed to your need. The cost of the molds won't break the bank.
