Great Performance Boost
I use this CPU on an old gaming rig. I went from an I5 760 to this one and Windows boot time is almost cut in half. Windows 10 is fast but the post screens used to take a while to load. I would recommend water cooling as I overclocked mine with the turbo profile on the Asus P7P55D Pro. I even went a little farther and OC'd to 4 GHz stable, so far.

Think your P55 motherboard is obsolete? NOT with this i7-875K CPU!
I upgraded the i7-860 CPU in my Dell PC with this i7-875K - it DO haul the freight without overclocking! Because the i7-875K runs hotter than the 860, I upgraded the stock CPU cooler with a Noctua NH-C12P. Unfortunately, while trying different cooler positions for best cooling, I accidently trashed the socket on the Dell mobo. Bought an ASUS P7P55D-E Pro mobo (they've become hard to find), and set it up in a larger case with a Noctua NHD-14 CPU cooler (a HUGE cooler). Trust me, this is not overkill: even with this cooler, this CPU can hit 68 degrees C stock (no overclock) when playing some of the heavy battles in 'Mass Effect'. DON'T scrimp on the CPU cooler, and you'll be fine. Bottom line: if you have a decent Socket 1156 mobo, this is the fastest CPU you can get before you have to ... Overclocked I-7 875K Still a Winner Updated 10/27/2012
I got this cpu in August last year and set it up in this manner I 7 875K ES WATERCOOLED with Antec H2O 620, dual fan, push pull setup Asus P5P55D E-LX 16GB CORSAIR XMS3 1600 ASUS GTX550TI 1GB and started playing with it, I was able to get it to 4.7 running stable, but the temps were @70c+ under stress, so I backed it down to 4.0 where it is currently running with temps maxed at around 50c under stress. At those settings my WEI is 7.7 (cpu) and 7.7 (mem)7.4(gpu, both settings)I have not gone to SSD so the drive is miserable at 5.9 I compared this to a custom build I was working on with the I 7 2600k with an Asus P8Z68 and found that the 875 could reach higher ratings than the 2600k running at a stable setting, as I said the 875 is at 7.7WEI but the 2600 was only able to get to 7.5 at the ... This processor is an easy overclocked unlocked processor that falls in the extreme category since it is unlocked and by that it means you can just raise the multiplier. It runs at 4.0-4.1 ghz with stock voltages at 1.21-1.22(very low)and with tweeking will easily go much higher and it is totally stable. I was looking at the new 980x as friends have that and decided to save money on total build and spend the difference on a 6gbps ssd. I couldn't be happier! Improvement on video clarity was astonishing and fps gains were excellent over a q9550. my total system response is much greater. This is an excellent option to the 1336 chipset i7's and only beat by the i7 975 and 980x. An unlocked cpu basically makes overclocking much simpler I would recomend this cpu. Installed into 2010 iMac 27"
I upgraded both of my 2010 iMac 27" i3s to i7s. I didn't think it would work but it does, other than having to use a fan regulation program based on the CPU temperature.
