    Save Me - DVD

    Interesting spin on the religiosity vs. homosexuality. Being a 50something man, I have had plenty of opportunity to come to grips with, and to accept myself for who I am and to understand life's hardships and rewards. This movie deals with something that was way out in left field. I was raised believing that I was evil and bound to end in hell. If there were any homes like this one, when I was the same age as most of the characters therein, it was unknown to me. While I disagreed with the aims of the main character, I certainly understood their motivation. While the matron of the home was zealous in her faith, she was misguided as to how best to deal with the sensitive issue.     I just finished watching this dvd the other night. The plot of the story was well thought out and the acting good. Chad Allen (Dr Quinn Medicine Woman) and Robert Gant's (Queer as Folk) have alot of chemistry in the film, but it is Judith Light (Who's the Boss) who steals the movie as we watch her try to come to grip with her gay son's death. Judith Light's character runs a half way house for gay men who want to become normal (straight). Chad Allen's character hits rock bottom and ends up at the half way house and meets Robert Gant's character who has been on the "straight" and narrow for awhile. But a love begins between the two men and they have to decide what is more important. Love or main stream society's acceptance. So the story line ...

    Yes, this is about religion, but more about love and friendship. It is about a forbidden love that blossoms within a community that doesn't approve, but the love perseveres in spite of this. There's stand out performances by Chad Allen, who plays Mark, a young drug abuser who hates himself because he can't get past his family's homophobia. Judith Light, as Gayle is fantastic! Her pain is palpable the first time she meets Mark, and the memories of her son come flooding back. Mark & her son have similar stories, but she is determined to ensure that they have different endings. So when Mark meets Scott, & their love story begins, Gayle is furious!
