You're buying high quality, use it well
You buy a Leica filter, as opposed to one from Hoya, Tiffen, or others, because you value the quality Leica puts into all their products. At times, this may amount to nothing more than snobbery, of course. If your cameras and lenses will be parked in a safe deposit box, then you will accept nothing less than Leica accessories, because you are only buying as a speculation. But if you buy to take pictures with your equipment,then examine your style of photographing. If you take reasonable care of your filters, than the purchase is prudent because you (or your heirs) will recoup much of your investment at the time of resale. If the use to which you put a UV filter is as a scratch and dent protector, and you know you are hard on equipment, then for heaven's sake don't buy this one. You are ... You buy a Leica filter, as opposed to one from Hoya, Tiffen, or others, because you value the quality Leica puts into all their products. You are treating the filter as a disposable item, an expense in the taking of your photos, and you will be much better served by a cheaper product. Perhaps you should even buy used filters, just because you will be trashing them in your work process. I accept it as true that Leica filters and a very few others are not simply decent glass, but really lenses in their own right. As such, you must decide for yourself whether the price is worth what you get. For me, it clearly is worth it, because I don't want to degrade the performance of a Leica lens with a poor filter. This filter will NOT go onto one of my cheap Canon zooms which I use on my "beater" Rebel XT at auto races. That would be a waste and a risk to the filter as well (races are run in the rain, in the fog, on dirt tracks, etc.); for that camera/lens combination, I buy used Hoyas on eBay.
