About this product

Product Information

A.I. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE is the story of David (Haley Joel Osment), the first mecha (a futuristic term for a mechanized human being) designed with the ability to love. A couple whose son is in a coma "adopts" David to help them recover from their loss. Naturally, things do not go as planned, and David is forced to leave the mother (Frances O'Connor) he's been "imprinted" to love, and make his way in the world. Traveling with Teddy, a hi-tech stuffed bear, David escapes the Flesh Fair, where angry humans destroy mechas to "purge artificiality," and unexpectedly befriends Gigolo Joe (Jude Law in a wry performance), a robot designed to pleasure women. Joe agrees to help David in his quest to become human. Director Stanley Kubrick originally developed A.I., at one point asking Spielberg to direct it. When Kubrick passed away, Spielberg took the reins. Using a treatment and thousands of drawings commissioned by Kubrick, Spielberg wrote his own screenplay (his first since 1979's CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND). Osment, perhaps the only pre-teen actor who can effectively convey existential angst, gives a marvelous performance, helping Spielberg create a gorgeous futuristic fairy tale that questions the very nature of what we call life.

  • Entertaining and provacative

None of my friends seemed to like this movie but I find it astounding! Not only because that Halley Joel Osmund kid is a great actor. Not only because the industrial band MINISTRY is in it!!! But because it's a good sci-fi flick. Spielberg would have ruined it if he had gotten to it earlier. You'll notice that all "evil" or "flawed" characters appear "redneck-ish" while all "noble" and "intelligent" characters look very Jewish. Very typical of Spielberg's last 10 movies. Overall, a fine storyline, a bit slow at parts, but wonderful soundtrack and scenery go well with the stunning special effects.

  • slow but only to make a point.

this movie is a play off pinochio in a way .... i wouldnt recommend it for younger children because of how slow it is it may not keep their attention, but around 11yrs should be ok.... so basicly its about a young boys fight/journey to become a real boy and i suppose thats how it seems drawn out is because theyre trying to make a point that he will keep fighting and not give up ANY hope, so it leaves you sitting in your chair thinking "just give up" but he keeps going, im not sure i liked that angle because i almost didnt want to finish the movie but i did and it was worthwhile .... i say rent it and see how you feel about it before buying it because i know not everyone will like it.... also the filiming quality wasnt so good, the movie was filmed in 2002 BUT it has a quality as ...

  • movie to make you tear

  • The Sci-fi Tearjerker since Bicentennial Man

One of Spielberg's misunderstood movies that should be truly respected. A story as a mechanical young boy named David (May contain spoilers) is abandoned from a family and forced to face the world out on his own till he finds another mechanical friend and seeking the Blue Fairy who he thinks could change him into a real boy. The ending I thought was much more powerful just the same as I felt at the end of Bicentennial Man which is a totally different movie. Still I think this film is very moving to me.
