About this product

Product Information

THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH is Alfred Hitchcock's remake of his 1935 movie of the same name. While vacationing in French Morocco, an American family becomes accidentally involved in a series of international incidents after the father overhears an assassination plot. Compared with its predecessor, this version is lavish, with a larger budget and a much bigger cast. While maintaining Hitchcock's fascination with an average Joe caught up in menacing events, the characters portrayed by Jimmy Stewart and Doris Day put a spin on the story that highlights the 1950s sensibilities that influenced the remake. Ben McKenna (Stewart), an American doctor, and his family stumble into the middle of an assassination plot while vacationing in Marrakech. When his son is kidnapped by the conspirators, McKenna must race against the clock to stop the murder and save his son's life. Stewart, as one might expect, gives a seamless performance as the average man thrown into exceptional circumstances. Day brings a bit of levity and performs the only musical number to appear in a Hitchcock film. (The song, "Que Sera, Sera," would win an Oscar and become a popular hit.) This later version of Hitchcock's suspenseful film also features the masterful Albert Hall sequence, arguably almost the equal of the renowned plane sequence in NORTH BY NORTHWEST.

  • Doris Day Rocks In This Movie About Kidnapping

Doris Day and Jimmy Stewart shine in this 1956 Alfred Hitchock movie as Jo and Dr. Benjamin Mc Kenna, who are on vacation in French Morocco with their young son Hank. When Hank accidentally bumps a Muslim woman and knocks off her berka, a French official saves the day. Louis Bernard, the Frenchman, promises to take them to dinner at a fabulous Moroccan restaurant and then stands them up. Then a strange British couple seems to be staring at them. There are some weird things going on in this strange country. It only gets stranger when there is a disturbance in the street, and Louis Bernard collapses in Dr. Mc Kenna's arms, stabbed in the back with a dagger. Before he dies, he utters words about an assassination attempt of a government official named Ambrose Chappell. From there, the ...

  • Hitchcock, Stewart, Day - A Winning Trio

As one expects from an Alfred Hitchcock movie, the story is excellent, with suspense, intrigue, and a touch of comedy. Doris Day shows great dramatic skill and proves she is more than just an amazing singer and dancer, though she does perform her signature song: "What Ever Will Be Will Be". No One could have played the lead as Jimmy Stewart does, he makes the unbelievable, believable. Overall, a mentally action packed thriller.

Great movie and great actors. Much different from the original. I can still remember my grandmother singing that song as she washed dishes when i was a little girl.
